I have worked with individuals suffering from depression, trauma, substance use and other addictions, anxiety, adjustment issues, grief & loss, sexual abuse, and LGBTQ issues.
As a licensed mental health counselor, my approach is warm, friendly, and client-centered. I believe that the relationship between the client and the therapist is the most important part of the therapeutic journey. I pride myself on being able to get a good sense of my clients and who they are individually in order to develop a strong therapeutic alliance. I am empathic and validating, but I am also skilled in challenging unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that may be getting in the way of living one's best life.

I meet with clients of diverse backgrounds, navigating challenges such as depression, anxiety, C-PTSD, gender dysphoria, substance use, self harm, LGBQ and TGNB identities, and men’s health.
You might be feeling low; sad, lonely, exhausted and like life is pointless. You might be feeling overwhelmed, like everything is anxiety inducing, confusing, frustrating, and out of control. You may even feel it all, where life is chaotic, disorganized and you're on-edge. My work specializes in helping people understand and work through what's showing up to move towards healing. I offer attuned and empathic psychotherapy, collaborating to shape a therapeutic treatment that is as unique as you are. With compassion, energy and curiosity, I show up to meet you where you are to hold space for you to feel safe, supported and seen.

A critical starting point in treatment is to listen, carefully, to a client’s story - what the client identifies as pressing concerns and what they hope to get out of treatment. From there, we begin the journey. My aim is to partner with clients to enhance internal and external resources. My role is to guide and support them on the road to change. In this process, I draw from broad experience and training, diagnostic skills honed by longstanding work with individuals struggling with a wide range of emotional difficulties. The process develops a clear plan and a clear destination.

Therapy is about self-exploration and growth, whether you want to improve your communication with others, learn how to cope with stress or any other mental injury that's weighing you down. Many times, feeling heard and being able to reflect can give you the space you need to make decisions about your life. You have to start where you are.

First off, congratulations on taking the step on this journey. I'm super excited that you have chosen to be on this journey and look forward to this adventure together, if you choose me as your therapist. :) A little bit about me: I am a social worker with background in substance abuse and mental health. I really enjoy meeting with clients and working towards their "aha moments". Therapy is a safe space to grow and "let down your hair" so to speak. I never want our time to be a power struggle/dynamic but rather a place where you can speak your mind and not feel judged. Trust me, I can be pretty quirky too.

Clients describe my style as calm, down-to-earth, non-judgmental yet challenging and my eclectic approach offers a truly individualized experience.

Waitlist for new clients
Sometimes we find ourselves at an inner-crossroads. Maybe you’ve realized you’re repeating cycles you know you want to break. Maybe you’re feeling unfulfilled but can't pinpoint why. Maybe you feel tossed around by your own intense emotions, or maybe you just can’t seem to make the changes you crave. You’re not alone. I work with clients who are often smart and anxious, who tend to feel exhausted by working so hard yet somehow still feel like it’s never enough. I also work with clients who feel sensitive to the world around them, often to the point of overwhelm.

If you are looking to heal, grow, and progress towards a heightened sense of self I can help. Through talking and the use of music and sound we will find a path together that works for you. I am a trained musician who has performed worldwide in many different settings including being a performer with the Blue Man Group for over 12 years. My path in music led me to music therapy and then psychotherapy, the therapeutic treatment of the individual as a whole being.

Expansive Therapy is a 100% LGBTQ+ owned and focused therapy practice. We wanted to go beyond checking a box for queer affirming therapy to creating a practice that was committed to the community, where queer people could bring their whole selves into therapy. Queer theory asks that we look at the world in a new way, not through a heteronormative lens, but from each individual perspective which is unique and perfect. We are passionate about understanding the unique challenges of our community and helping our queer clients to heal.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
