Do you find yourself constantly overthinking, carrying stress that never seems to turn off, or repeating patterns in relationships that leave you feeling frustrated and exhausted? Perhaps you've spent years managing anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or the effects of past experiences while appearing to have everything together on the outside. I work particularly well with adults who feel stuck in cycles of anxiety, people-pleasing, perfectionism, self-doubt, or the lingering effects of difficult childhood experiences and relationship wounds.

I believe therapy means making you feel deeply known and accepted. My approach centers on harnessing your unique strengths in building the bridge between where you are and where you want to be. I'd like to help you understand your emotional concerns from a perspective of humanistic compassion; that your younger self did your best to cope by what very limited options were available to you. The process of understanding yourself with compassion and learning new ways of being in the world isn't always easy, but I'll be with you every step of the way.

If you’re not feeling like yourself lately, you’re not alone. Many Americans feel the country is out of control and is careening towards an existential crisis. Typical everyday stressors like work, relationships, and family are being exacerbated feelings of a loss of individual agency. We demand a lot of ourselves, and sometimes we feel that we’re not living up to our own standards, or that we’re not where we should be in our lives, that success and happiness might not even be achievable anymore. Therapy can help you get a sense of perspective, express your emotions, and regain a sense of self.

I enjoy helping my patients overcome the effects of trauma, anxiety, and consistent stress. You can feel more in control over your life by understanding what the triggers are, where they come from, and learning how to manage them differently or explore what can be given up. I can teach you methods to retrain how you think and talk to yourself. I can help support you and decrease reactivity through patience, understanding and learning tools. I want to help you reconnect with yourself and gain clarity. I value both my time and my patients’, which means I’m reliable, consistent, and intentional in supporting your goals.

We can often be our own worst critics, feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of “what if” scenarios that pop into our heads. Whether it shows up in our romantic relationships, academics, family dynamics, or in the workplace, anxiety can feel like an overprotective force in our heads that means well, but often latches onto perfectionism, urgency and control. For the past 8 years, it has been my privilege to work directly with clients from a variety of backgrounds to treat anxiety, depression, trauma and general life stress.

I often draw from Attachment-Based, CBT, Schema Therapy, and EMDR to help clients break free from cycles of codependency and start experiencing relationships in a new way.
Have you found yourself stuck in painful relationship cycles—whether it’s staying with a partner who mistreats you, feeling anxious and dependent on their approval, or struggling to let go even when you know it’s not healthy? These patterns can leave you feeling trapped, exhausted, and unsure of yourself. The truth is, you don’t have to keep repeating these cycles. With support, it’s possible to set boundaries that feel empowering, and start building the healthier connections you deserve.

As part of this approach I utilize Schema Therapy when appropriate, which allows for a quick assessment of life patterns and can be helpful in structuring therapy.
I have years of experience helping clients deal with anxiety, depression and anger problems and with couples who are looking to reduce marital conflict. When new clients call me they are looking for help in coping so they can feel better and handle their life challenges more effectively. Some people are looking for understanding of what happened and how they got here, and some are more interested in learning coping skills quickly, and most want some combination of both approaches. I listen to what their individual wants and needs and plan accordingly.

Schema Therapy
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
