I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, and substance use concerns.
Many of my clients have spent much of their lives taking care of others, putting their own needs aside, or feeling responsible for keeping things together. For some, these patterns developed in homes affected by addiction, emotional inconsistency, neglect, or chronic stress. For others, they may stem from difficult relationships, life transitions, or experiences that left them feeling disconnected from themselves.

I strive to create an environment where you feel safe working through unresolved issues in an effort to expand your capacity for a fulfilling life. I will help you recognize personal strengths and resources and develop a stronger sense of resiliency. When we understand that most of our suffering doesn't come from feeling pain, but from all the ways we avoid confronting or dealing with our unresolved issues, we learn how to reduce our suffering.

Suffering is a normal and unavoidable part of human experience. It is our attempt to control or avoid our own painful experiences that can, at times, lead us to suffering beyond what is necessary. If we can learn ways to let go of the struggle to hold onto the pain, while becoming more present in our daily lives, we get move towards the life we say we want.

Does perfectionism, obsessive thoughts, or hyper-focus on perceived flaws keep you stuck? Do you (or your child) struggle with your body image, and/or have a negative relationship with food? Maybe you keep it together on the outside but find it hard to stop the inner chaos. Self doubt, feeling like a failure, feeling inadequate, hating yourself or being filled with shame are all indicators that it is time to make a change. I can help you create a plan and feel hope. Most of all I can help heal the pain of past experiences, self doubt/hatred and live authentically.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked extensively with children, teens, and adults, helping them navigate and manage everyday concerns.
First sessions can be awkward, and I’m here to make sure ours isn’t. Clients can expect a warm, conversational atmosphere where we focus on building a solid rapport right out of the gate. We’ll talk through your history, maybe have a little laugh where it's appropriate, and start defining what success looks like for you.

Anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic stress, addiction or life transitions can leave people feeling overwhelmed or stuck. For some, this shows up as irritability, anger, substance use, low motivation, avoidance, or difficulty managing school, work, and relationships. Others may notice feeling on edge, disconnected, or like they are reacting in ways they do not fully understand or want to repeat. This can affect performance, communication, and overall day-to-day functioning, even when someone is trying to manage things on their own.

I specialize in teenage depression and anxiety.
I specialize in Person-Centered Therapy. I do incorporate CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment therapy) as well. I am one to challenge your fears and ask about the rationale behind them. I am also one to realize that everything is not black and white, and sometimes you have to find a middle ground to comfortably sit in.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
