My orientation is psychodynamic /interpersonal/relational, I also employ cognitive -behavioral techniques and was trained in DBT by André Ivanoff, PhD, (an original leading expert in DBT).
The main goals of treatment are two-fold: the management of symptoms and the development of insight. These goals are met through the process of the psychological effects of a warm, accepting therapeutic relationship and the analysis of your thoughts, words and behaviors. With over 15 years experience - working mostly with adolescents (11+ through young adulthood) - I’ve had the opportunity to work with young people from many different backgrounds. From those with general anxiety and depressed mood to those dealing with trauma, substances, death and divorce and varied academic problems. I work in privately & school settings.

I have specialized training in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), an approach that draws upon mindfulness techniques, psychodynamic concepts, and behavioral strategies in an effort to improve individuals' capacity to cope with stress.
Women have unique mental health needs. Too often these needs are overlooked or minimized in traditional therapy settings. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for women as they explore a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, relationship challenges, feelings of anxiety or depression, trauma, self-esteem or body image issues, and trouble achieving a work-life balance that feels sustainable. This focus has been enriching for me, and I always gain a new appreciation for the unique experiences of every woman I meet through my practice.

I am a Clinical Psychologist, and have been in practice for 30 years. I believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative process, and that good treatment can be life changing. I have a non-judgmental approach, and partner with clients to identify obstacles that interfere with self esteem, relationships and goals. Often times people get stuck in redundant, maladaptive patterns of behavior. When these patterns are identified and understood, more productive options become accessible. I am proficient in both CBT and psychodynamic psychotherapy, and typically integrate both approaches and tailor treatment to meet the needs of my clients.

Helping you sleep better is my passion! I am a board-certified (DBSM) clinical psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of insomnia and other sleep disorders. I primarily use cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) to help my clients regain the sleep they need. I firmly believe that once sleep difficulties are addressed, other challenges seem less insurmountable, and more resources become available to overcome them. In addition, I help clients with mood disorders, anxiety, stress, adjustment to life transitions, and difficulties in relationships.

My approach to psychotherapy draws from cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic , and psycho-educational models.
I provide ADHD coaching and psychotherapy to youth (grades 4 and up), adults, couples, and families via in person, phone, or Online. I believe one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself is self-awareness through therapy or coaching. This involves a great deal of self-care and acceptance while you honor your strengths, identify and accept the things you need to work on, and learn strategies and coping skills. Some issues I can provide coaching or therapeutic support for are: ADHD, executive functioning challenges, depression, anxiety, OCD, grief and loss, infertility, social, interpersonal and/or parenting difficulties.

I use an eclectic approach including psychodynamic therapy, and CBT/ERP for OCD.
From my training and over twenty five years experience in practice, I have developed a non-judgmental, collaborative, and holistic approach to help people explore their problems in living. I work with all ages from a developmental perspective which I find invaluable. I love seeing children because of their innate desire to grow. Tapping into the teen's natural thrust towards independence propels the work forward as I stay in tune with adolescent goals. With adults, I'm mindful of a person's history, but stay in the present using the therapeutic relationship to heal the past and expand awareness.

I am a psychodynamic /analytically trained clinical social worker. I have been teaching clinical practice and practicing for over 30 years. Its often quite frightening to come to a stranger and share one's suffering. I often recommend that one initially goes for a consultation. The consultation hopefully, will provide a sense if the therapist can be of help. Therapy is a collaboration of two people. People often seek therapy when there is a painful loss or disappointment in their lives. Understanding and support helps in the recovery process.

My work is informed by attachment theory and psychodynamic practices, with a special focus on somatic and relational approaches.
I specialize in working with individuals, couples and families who have experienced loss and/or trauma. The definition and scope of both "loss" and "trauma" are as unique as the individual struggling to move through it; my work honors the unique circumstances each person brings to the therapeutic space while also utilizing methods that are proven to promote growth and reduce emotional distress. If you are struggling with a health or medical trauma, (as the patient or the caregiver), death/other significant loss, or a developmental trauma that is impacting current relationships, you do not need to struggle alone.

I predominantly use psychodynamic and relational treatment approaches with special attention to patterns of attachment.
Are you struggling with a significant relationship? Perhaps also suffering from resulting depression or anxiety while trying to navigate? Therapy can offer a safe, collaborative, and meaningful way to develop greater insight and help problem-solve through seemingly insurmountable barriers towards making better choices and fortifying confidence to achieve goals. Over the last 25 years, my work with individuals and couples has taught me that ideally, treatment is a shared endeavor, shaped by experience, perspective, curiosity, mutual respect, and a sense of humor.

When's the last time you really felt heard? That someone was truly listening to you & what you had to say, instead of just waiting for their turn to speak? In these times when social media seemingly offers instant connections to anyone, yet can still leave you feeling unheard, unseen and disconnected from everyone, having someone give you their undivided attention and consideration can be a rare find. I am that rare find.

My practice focuses on the problems of adults/adolescents through family/couples/individual work. I work with my clients to identify problems, and address barriers to change, when change is possible. At times, therapy is a process in which we can learn to cope better with stressors that cannot be changed. I strive to maintain a non-judgmental, empathic atmosphere, and the most important measure of success is when my client feels helped.

Life can be hard at times - for all of us. Sometimes, it is because of challenging circumstances such as the loss of a loved one, an illness/health issue, or a life transition. Other times, it's difficult to recognize the cause of the challenge. From the outside, your life may look wonderful, yet it may not feel that way on the inside. You don't need to push through on your own. I am here to help. It is crucial that you feel "gotten" by and connected to your therapist. I tailor my approach to the needs of my clients, as everyone is different and there is no "one size fits all" solution to life's challenges.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
