I specialize in working with teens and adults who are navigating challenges such as grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and the unique demands of parenting, especially for those raising children with special needs.
We have an opportunity to overcome obstacles that arise in our lives, and achieve personal and emotional goals. Sometimes we don’t know what those obstacles are, or what tools you can use to overcome them. I hope to help you with both of those questions. I strive to make the counseling experience safe and client centered.

Choosing the right therapist is critical to the success of your treatment, but it can be a daunting task. I understand and welcome you to call for a consultation before making a decision. Good treatment depends on a strong relationship founded on trust and respect and it is important that you feel at ease with whomever you work. I encourage an open and friendly rapport in the therapeutic relationship, appreciate its potential to alleviate stress, self-doubt, and anxiety, and hope to share with you its capacity to effect change both within yourself and in your relationships with others.

Everyone deserves to feel safe and supported with someone neutral, who is there to listen to your story. Some people come with clear goals while some people don't know where to start - and both are okay! My approach to therapy starts where the client is - focusing on what feels most important and meaningful to you. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches to motivate reflection and change. I am supportive, collaborative and focused on helping individuals build skills to feel confident and achieve success in their every day lives. Together, we can make sense of this wild thing called "life".

Emotional intelligence and connection are just one of the various challenges we face through our lives. Whether it be daily stresses or heavy traumas, understanding the responses we have for ourselves, or our partners can be a challenge. Through therapy, we can begin to understand the ways in which we have learned to respond to stressful and emotional situations. This way, we can begin to unravel the patterns and responses we previously had to healthier and more constructive responses.

Counseling varies depending on the personality of both the therapist and the client and the particular problems that you may be experiencing. I want to help you address the problems you hope to address. Often this includes building skills to: reduce feelings of distress, improve relationships, communication with others, and/or to resolve difficult personal issues. In order for therapy to be most successful, you will be asked to work on things we talk about both during our sessions and at home.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
