In cases of trauma I use EMDR to bring instant relief permanently.
I am direct and focused on the issues that my patients bring to me. My 36 years of experience with children and parents afford me great advantage over those who have had no experience within school districts. In addition, my years of concurrent psychoanalytic training and social work have further sensitized me to allow me to help patients with all their major life issues. I am dedicated to my practice of adults, teens and children whom I help with all their problems that life brings.

Additionally, I am a Certified Therapist in EMDR, a protocol that facilitates the healing of stress and trauma .
I enjoy working with individuals and couples across the life cycle: young adults dealing with anxiety, self-esteem issues or relationship stress in these uncertain times; couples long married and looking to enhance their relationship; and 'baby boomers' facing their own transitions while being 'sandwiched' between the needs of adult children and aging parents. I believe in our capacity for personal growth individually and in our closest relationships throughout life. In a safe, confidential environment you are invited to engage in the empowering process of therapy. My therapeutic style is warm, empathic and interactive.

Trauma in varying degrees is a part of everyone's lives that often goes unrecognized, or the experience gets buried deep down consciously or unconsciously, with the hope that it doesn't resurface. We often feel we have done a good job of supressing until we find unhealthy coping behavior, and responses repeating themselves, keeping one stuck until acknowledged and addressed. My goal is to help promote world peace by helping one heart at a time to develop inner peace despite what ever is going on now or in the past.

Relationships are at the core of our being. They enrich our daily lives, fuel new experiences, and are one of the most important ways we come to know ourselves. All of us feel the need to belong and connect with others; we strive to be accepted in ways that feel genuine, meaningful and satisfying. Unhealthy relationships can take their toll, but good relationships improve all aspects of life, strengthening health, mind, and connections with others. However, all relationships can fall off track and go through periods of conflict, or be impacted by trauma , which may lead us to feel frustrated, stuck, dissatisfied, and/or frightened.

I am drawn to Vivian Green’s quote “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” It captures the idea that life is a journey and engaging in therapy will help you address the issues you experience along the way to create a happier, meaningful and fulfilling life. People seek therapy for a number of reasons. Perhaps you are struggling with mental health issues, overwhelming emotions, behavioral issues, a difficult life transition, achieving your goals or relationships. Therapy offers the opportunity to learn about oneself, access your inner wisdom and lead a fulfilling life.

For over 20 years I have effectively helped people to understand and change what interferes with their confidence, relationships and the ability to cope with life transitions and losses. Coping skills that are destructive (or healthy coping skills that cannot be maintained) lead to feeling “stuck,” which adds to frustration and self-doubt. Once this cycle is understood, healthy, sustainable coping skills can be easily learned and implemented. This is life changing!

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
