I am a bilingual Latinx clinician. I help neurodivergent people experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, social skills and relationship challenges, sensory sensitivities, & emotional dysregulation feel more grounded & move through life with more ease. As a fellow neurodivergent person (I was diagnosed with Autism in my early 30's), I get it! For many of us, the journey of self-discovery is not straightforward. Learning how to support your unique brain/body/nervous system is a life-changing process, & I would be happy to support you in that journey.

Therapy can help you open up new possibilities and pathways to explore, redefine, and play with notions of family and intergenerational community. A foundation of our work will be to identify societal factors and history that impact the relationships you have with yourself and others. This includes factors impacting how you move through the world such as race, social class, gender, sexual orientation and ability. We will identify how your relationships to each of these factors impact your ability to build the interdependent relationships and the community that you want.

I work with clients of all ages whose therapy goals may include improving general mental health, forming healthy attachments and relationships, or minimizing the effects of anxiety and trauma. When it comes to therapy, one size fits one. Some people benefit from a sustained dive into their past, their relationships, or their place in society. Others are more interested in finding solutions to personal problems in the present. For many clients, using music in the therapeutic process allows them to fast-track and optimize the emotional work they need to do before they can make meaningful changes in their lives.

Our mental health consists of many components: our biology, our psychology, our social environments, and our spiritual lives. Because of the diverse range of human experience, mental health does not benefit from a one-size-fits all therapy, but rather from creative approaches to treatment. I believe that creativity and mental health are interrelated through their joint emphasis on humanism and empathy. This approach means meeting clients where they already are, using humility, radical acceptance, and creative thinking to learn the power of self-advocacy and achieve self-understanding.

In a rapidly changing world, one can find it challenging to deal with feeling mad, afraid, sad or even glad! My aim is to help alleviate that pain. I use an integrative approach to understand your life experiences, feelings, and the reason for seeking counsel. I believe each person already has in them the potential to grow. A personal transformation through the process of psychotherapy can help facilitate this growth. Eventually, this will give you a greater understanding of yourself, others and the world around you.

You’ve been wondering why you do & feel the things you do—why specific behaviors keep repeating, why you feel stuck, no matter how much you try to change. You’ve done the self-help books, the podcasts, maybe a few short-term therapy stints, but you still find yourself repeating the same patterns. I help curious, motivated people ready to go deeper than symptom management. Together, we’ll explore the hidden patterns, emotional blocks, & past experiences that still shape your present. Our work will be thoughtful & challenging in the best way — the kind of therapy that helps you grow in ways you didn’t know were possible.

I believe strongly in the importance of the therapist-client relationship and work diligently to create a bond that enables honesty, vulnerability, and the confidence to seek lasting and meaningful change. In my work, I find that making discoveries about the stories we tell ourselves and the patterns we find ourselves in can be very empowering. Becoming curious about yourself, how your past has shaped you, and what you might do now to positively impact your future can seed healing, growth, and transformation.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
