My specialties include working with depression and
anxiety
, trauma, helping individuals and their families make sense of multiple changes.
I accept clients age 60 and over, younger if they are caring for an elder. Aging can bring the release from the worries and stress of youth, bring joy and possibilities with more free time. It can also bring
anxiety
about the future, depression, loss and grief, a disturbing medical diagnosis. I have almost thirty years of experience helping adults and their caregivers navigate emotional changes, trauma, challenges associated with dementia, changes in relationships, health status, grief and loss. It is my honor to walk with you at this time, and to help you find peace.

*I am not able to accept new clients at this time for individual treatment. However, I am accepting people for group therapy. * I enjoy building relationships that facilitate the healing process - moving from just coping everyday to overcoming barriers in relationships, work, school and overall well-being through connection. I have experience working with adults and adolescents with persistent
anxiety
, depression and difficulty in attachment, often this is due to trauma. Additionally, I enjoy working with adolescents and their families to create relationships that work for all family members.

I specialize in EMDR therapy and have 25 years of experience working with adults of various ages who are experiencing grief & loss, depression,
anxiety
, difficult life transitions, stressful relationships, trauma and work-related issues. I strive to listen well without judgment and to tailor the therapy to my client's individual needs and goals. I realize how difficult it can be to seek therapy, and to focus and talk about the areas in your life which need attention and change, especially when you are hurting and feeling vulnerable. Of primary importance is the quality of the relationship and trust between us as we work together.

Your phone’s notifications don’t need to trigger
anxiety
.
Does your use of SOCIAL MEDIA feel like an ADDICTION? Do your moods vacillate wildly depending on your Twitter mentions or how many times somebody has swiped right on your profile? We fear the judgment of others, but we crave their approval and praise. These feelings can be overwhelming and make you feel like you are out of control. What if I told you that you didn’t need to suffer like this?

Chronic, automatic self defeating thoughts create
anxiety
, poor self-esteem, unsatisfying relationships, and undermine health.
Our thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, relationships and experiences shape us emotionally, physically and energetically. By gently and compassionately exploring these, both healthy and undermining, new choices become possible. I offer principles from Behavioral Cognitive Therapy including guided meditation, diaphragmatic breathing, cognitive restructuring, progressive relaxation, and mindfulness. When reinforced with practice, these techniques help to increase wellness and reduce suffering and
anxiety
. You don't need to know the problem or the solution to begin. You only need to want something to change.

I work with people who have depression, trauma, PTSD,
anxiety
, and ADHD.
Are you feeling stuck, confused, overwhelmed, or discouraged? These feelings can prevent you from moving on and accomplishing your goals. Events from your past and present can affect your ability to cope and to concentrate on the present and future that you want for yourself. Talking to a trusted, objective therapist can help you sort this out and learn skills to cope and move on to the life you want. Many people are relieved to learn what their symptoms mean and to understand that there is hope. I can offer support, guidance, and information on coping skills to help you move on.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
