Stress, overwhelm, depression and worry are the four horsemen of our era. They drag you down, drain your battery and overload your senses. Result: subpar relationships, underperformance at work, and poor overall quality of life. Your instincts are right: you have had enough, you deserve better out of life, and you are ready to move forward. Ashburn Mental Performance Services (AMPS).

The treatment modalities I use are CBT, EMDR, Somatic based techniques, solution oriented, and Mindfulness Based techniques.
Oftentimes people have difficulties facing their life stressors and/or experienced trauma. This can manifest itself by symptoms of anxiety, depression, unhealthy patterns in thinking or behaviors and unhealthy lifestyle choices. As a result, the different roles we play within our lives becomes affected and our relationships suffer. I help my clients navigate through their stress by helping them learn healthier ways of coping, while exploring together what factors within their life are contributing to debilitating or bothersome symptoms. I am here to help you on your life's journey and I aim to treat the mind, body, and spirit!

I am not easily scared off by extensive trauma and my toolbox includes EMDR, EFT/Tapping, CBT and Mindfulness Techniques.
My work is often trauma-focused, and I have expertise in EMDR, mindfulness and mind-body therapies such as AIT and EFT. During COVID I was happy to discover that these modalities work quite effectively through telehealth. WIth few exceptions, however, I believe it is the relationship between client and therapist that heals. We all have a story to unpack.

Are you tired of feeling like your past is running your life?
Maybe you find yourself reacting in ways you don't like — snapping at people you love, shutting down when things get hard, or carrying a weight you can't quite name. When unresolved experiences take hold, they rob us of our ability to choose how we show up. The result can be anxiety, depression, shame, and relationships that feel more draining than nourishing. It doesn't have to stay that way. I believe therapy is a relational and collaborative process — not something done to you, but with you.

Do you feel like you're stuck in a loop of worry, fear, exhaustion, guilt, or anger? Do you feel like no-one can understand you or what you're going through?
Grief can feel insurmountable, confusing, exhausting. Grief is not something to be fixed, it's something to honor. It's something that we can move forward through and create life around. Trauma can make us feel like we don't have power over our emotions. Trauma doesn't have to define us. Trauma isn't us, it's what we endured.
In addition to grief and trauma, I meet with many people experiencing challenges such as anxiety, difficult life transitions and caregiver stress.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
