Treatment is available for anxiety disorders, compulsive behavior, ADHD, learning disabilities, stress, behavior problems, parenting concerns, trichotillomania (hair pulling), and Tourette's/Tic Disorder.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I love helping people set and reach short and long term goals, experience happiness, and effectively manage and accept negative emotions. I really enjoy helping people to identify, accept, and overcome anxiety. While we all experience anxiety during our lives, it is important to learn the difference between real and imagined dangers, to be able to approach new experiences even if we are scared, and to live a life free from the damaging and smothering aspects of anxiety related disorders.

Sometimes we need a helping hand. Life is challenging at times, and it becomes difficult to navigate! We all have negative thoughts and feelings we need to work through. Relationship problems, anger, family issues, and past trauma can add stress to our lives. Strategies are available to successfully cope and gain insight into how we think, address problem thoughts, and remain mindful of our strengths and our capacity for change. Helping clients address these issues ( and others) and improve well-being with a variety of evidence- based strategies, is what I do.

You have a unique purpose and carry unique values. But lately, you have found it difficult to find your path and reach your goals. You feel "stuck". I can help you identify the values that are important to you and give you the skills you need to reach those goals. I work with clients who have anxiety, social adjustment issues, difficulty being "flexible", and caregivers who are struggling to support those with disabilities and behavioral challenges. I make therapy an active, rewarding choice for every person so that he or she feels safe, supported, and confident in his or her decisions.

Do you have upsets with children who have learning issues? Did you come from a family that was affected by alcohol abuse? Are you anxious, tense or unsure of yourself? Many good people face one or more of these difficulties in their lifetimes. As the Director of a Family Services program on Long Island, the challenges of helping the elderly, young adults, teens, children and married couples were always interesting for me. I have extensive experience working with Adult Children of Alcoholics, learning disabled students and their parents, anxious and socially phobic people, students who are trying to determine their future and also married couples.

Life can be hard but it can also be beautiful. I utilize a compassionate and integrative approach. I seek to help clients uncover their true potential and generate positive change in their lives. I am a believer in the power of our thoughts and that our environment, as well as our experiences, greatly impact our lives. I assist clients in healing by helping guide them in understanding what holds them back and through the process of navigating the path forward. Life can be challenging. Relationships, work, life transitions, and daily stress can feel overwhelming. You may find that your thoughts make it difficult to focus or keep you up at night. Maybe you feel as though you are not good enough. You might be more irritable or disconnected from others. It can be hard to enjoy the things that you used to. This can affect your relationships and your work. You are not alone. Anxiety and depression are quite prevalent, and fortunately, treatable. In therapy, we can explore patterns that may be occurring in your life and work to develop tools to help you make changes.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
