Sometimes we need a helping hand. Life is challenging at times, and it becomes difficult to navigate! We all have negative thoughts and feelings we need to work through. Relationship problems, anger, family issues, and past trauma can add stress to our lives. Strategies are available to successfully cope and gain insight into how we think, address problem thoughts, and remain mindful of our strengths and our capacity for change. Helping clients address these issues ( and others) and improve well-being with a variety of evidence- based strategies, is what I do.

Feel like there's no one there to listen or like no one will care about what you're going through? Maybe talking to your friends or family is not an option, so you keep holding on to the hurt and the anger. This could lead to feelings of sadness, lack of motivation, sleep trouble, anxiety, etc. Perhaps you think that if you see a therapist, s/he may be judgmental. As an experienced therapist, I've had the honor of working with many clients, who usually view me as non-judgmental, caring, and emphatic. Let this be your time to tell your story.

You have a unique purpose and carry unique values. But lately, you have found it difficult to find your path and reach your goals. You feel "stuck". I can help you identify the values that are important to you and give you the skills you need to reach those goals. I work with clients who have anxiety, social adjustment issues, difficulty being "flexible", and caregivers who are struggling to support those with disabilities and behavioral challenges. I make therapy an active, rewarding choice for every person so that he or she feels safe, supported, and confident in his or her decisions.

As both a licensed psychologist and BCBA, I specialize in the treatment of challenging behavior, anxiety and stress management, and skills training. I work with children and adolescents who are experiencing behavioral difficulties such as noncompliance, aggression, and off-task behavior at school and/or home, and have specific expertise working with individuals on the autism spectrum. I provide parent training for families looking to create a consistent and positive environment in the home. I use a two-prong approach to behavior management: decrease interfering behavior while teaching adaptive functional behavior such as coping skills, social skills, and organization skills.

In my opinion, people's biggest fear is vulnerability (you know, "putting it out there"). Often, we refrain from expressing ourselves because we are never certain how we will be perceived. (Am I the only one feeling this way?!) Therapy should be a forum in which you can comfortably express ideas and concerns and be assured that you are not offending anyone, being judged, looked at oddly, recorded, or subject to the ramifications that often are the result of "confiding" in someone you know. I welcome the opportunity to help you unload the "stuff" that has been on your mind...

Clients 16 and older only. Very limited availability at this time. So many are dealing with the pressure to always be "doing something". We are constantly on the go but but not getting ahead. We rarely take time to care for self. I find people are feeling worn out and unsure how to change things. Frustration builds and their relationships suffer as well. I'd like to show you how to slow down your thoughts, reduce anxiety, and regain sense of self. We can take the steps for you to start feeling better by building better coping skills. Whether you are feeling stuck or just need to know that you're are being heard, I'd like to help.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
