When children and teens are in crisis, so are their families? Is homework time stressful? Is your child unhappy? Does he/she not have friends? Is the teacher complaining that he/she is not paying attention to the lessons? Are you concerned your child's grades need to improve in order for he/she to be promoted to the next grade level? I help children learn ways to calm themselves so they can better pay attention. Through playing games which may involve math or reading, they begin to feel a sense of success and find learning can be fun.

Minds Unstuck provides support for individuals with sensorimotor differences (autism and otherwise), their families, and their team of practitioners. Sensorimotor differences can impact so much. Life is complex, and can become even more so when considering someone living with and experiencing these differences. Families may struggle to find clinicians who can provide fulfilling guidance and support. My clients are looking for someone who can provide a unique perspective to their families' care. They are looking to build an intentional lifestyle around their loved one who is motor-impacted.

I work with adults who experience, depression, anxiety, addictions and image related issues. I also work with Christians, both ministry leaders and others who struggle with achieving what their faith promises. I am very comfortable with both short term and long term treatment approaches. I help my clients identify root causes as well as strategies to both manage and overcome those issues.

Most likely, you're wondering how I can help you. I've been practicing for over 30 years and specialize in: 1) marital and sex therapy (for example, erectile problems, painful intercourse, lack of sexual desire and am certified in sex therapy by the American Association of Sexual Educators, Counselors, and Therapists),- I'm always focused on increasing pleasure in your relationship; 2)reducing your depression, and 3) minimizing your compulsive eating (including weight and exercise management.). When we work together, I try to highlight your strengths so that you can take charge of your life and "fix" your problems.

Life can feel overwhelming when you’re carrying anxiety, stress, or the weight of past experiences. On the outside, you may appear strong and capable, but inside you might feel exhausted, stuck, or unsure of who you are anymore. In therapy, you don’t have to carry it alone. I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can take off the mask, make sense of your story, and begin to heal. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and empowering. Clients often describe me as warm, down-to-earth, and direct, someone who can hold space for your emotions while also helping you grow and move forward.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
