I work with people who have relationship difficulties, are suffering with depression and anxiety, caregiver stress, bereavement, and difficulties adjusting to important life transitions.
For over 25 years, I have had the privilege of working with people who have shared their lives with me and trusted me to help through challenging times. Together we will work to find a way to better living - with less distress, more satisfying work and relationships, and a life with greater meaning. I work within a psychodynamic framework while practicing an integrative treatment model; I believe that both understanding yourself better and learning ways to manage difficult emotions are key to a meaningful and satisfying life.

The key to a satisfying and productive therapy is the ability of the therapist to “get” the patient and their world, and to use the interactive relationship to resolve the blockages and dysfunctional behavior patterns that engender feelings of anxiety and depression .
I am a psychodynamically trained therapist with 30 years of experience treating a wide variety of individuals and couples. I don't treat diagnoses or disorders. I work with people who are dissatisfied and unhappy with some aspects of their lives, and who have come to recognize that their difficulties may have their origin within their own perceptions or unproductive patterns of behavior. A patient recently described our work together saying, “You listen to me until I know what I think.”

Finding the right therapist can bring a great sense of relief. Feeling a connection, a safe place to open up, is vital to success in treatment. Together, exploring thoughts and behaviors as well as solutions and coping skills to address problems, should feel like a weight being lifted off. Discussing childhood, past traumas, affecting you today, is very important in my treatment approach. Do you have symptoms of depression , anxiety, substance abuse? Tackling these issues, I am happy to say, after over 20 years, I have seen great changes in quality of life for many people.

I'm experienced in all the areas I list, but most of my patients come in for depression , anxiety, relationship issues, LGBTQ concerns, couple work, parenting issues, and other conflict areas.
It must be overwhelming to see all these names. How to choose? And decisions tend to be harder when you're not feeling at your best. My suggestion: see who you're drawn to, then have a consultation with two or three people. It's so important to find the right match. Most good therapy takes place in the connection between patient and therapist. You need to feel you can share who you really are with one of us. Therapy is about emotional honesty, with yourself and others. Easy to say, harder to do. But it's worth the work.

I started my social work career working with children and families. This experience has helped to shape my work with clients and to understand how our experiences in our own families affect our lives. Since I have been in the field for over 30 years, I utilize both my analytic training (four years post masters) as well my roots as a social worker. I believe in enabling clients to work in the here and now to make good choices based on sound understanding of their motivations. My experience is wide ranging but working with clients who have depression and anxiety is a specialty as well as clients suffering from OCD. For the past 15 years I have worked with adult children of alcoholics as well as those in early recovery from a variety of addictions including drug, alcohol, smoking, gambling and shopping. I look forward to meeting with you and to encourage and support you on your journey of self discovery.

I have 15+ years of experience treating clients facing relationship problems (romantic, parent/child, friendships, professional, etc), life transitions, depression and anxiety, and postpartum.
Accepting new virtual clients! My style is warm, genuine, and practical. I use humor and honesty to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can be your true, authentic self. I believe the key to progress in therapy is developing insight into patterns (relationships, behaviors, and thoughts), while learning concrete skills to make real tangible changes in the here and now. My training has primarily focused on psychodynamic psychotherapy and DBT.

In my practice I am looking to engage clients to gain insight, discover motivation, and hone emotional skills. I am interested in providing the most conducive setting for people to cultivate their innate creativity, intelligence, and courage in navigating anxiety, depression , and the range life’s challenges.

While I address a range of problems (anxiety, depression , motivation), I have specific expertise in working with individuals (and family systems) who have experienced sexual trauma.
I practice in both NYC and Hastings. I draw on my clinical, activist and legal backgrounds. I work with individuals and couples. Individually, I work with adolescents, younger and older adults. In my work, I honor the struggles inherent in growing up, raising children and living a life of meaning - often as one copes with real financial, social or climate related stress. With warmth and curiosity, I view our interior lives from an attachment and relational perspective. I also draw on sensory and body-based modalities. When relevant, I create room to explore how our political culture impacts our felt sense of well-being.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
