Therapy is a process of discovery and change, which, although often challenging, I believe is always an endeavor worth taking. As I greatly respect one's decision to make this commitment to themselves, I take an active approach in the therapy process and work collaboratively with my clients towards healing and insight. I primarily make use of psychodynamic techniques with a general focus on helping to increase self-awareness, a sense of wellbeing, and a sense of empowerment to achieve desired change. However, it is important to note that treatment goals established by my clients and me are individualized to meet each client's needs.

My approach is psychodynamic , practical and person-centered.
Reaching out for help, especially in stressful times and feeling overwhelmed, takes courage. And finding a therapist you can open up to is important. One of my strengths is providing a judgement-free, compassionate space for you to share your feelings, thoughts, hopes and dreams. Together, we are problem solving and identifying obstacles and patterns, often that we all experience as human beings, without knowing why. I think every person is an individual and unique in his/her/their own way. I have both clinical and life experience to help with stressors related to life transitions, relationships, family issues, and work.

I incorporate psychodynamic theories and CBT and feel my success with clients is strengthened by utilizing different skill sets and theoretical frameworks, as applicable.
I fundamentally believe everyone, given the right tools, has the ability to thrive and fully experience life. Using DBT, I will immediately provide you with transformative skills to navigate stressful life circumstances, adapt to and stabilize dysregulated emotions, and that will encourage you to create the changes you envision. DBT is a short-term therapy, with long-term benefits. My focus is working with adolescents and adults, both individually and in groups, with mood disorders, anxiety/panic disorders, depression, suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and in need of crisis intervention.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
