Therapy for Latinx individual who identifies as queer. They grew up in a traditional Latinx household where discussions about mental health were taboo, and expressions of queerness were often met with judgment or rejection. They have experienced various forms of trauma, including discrimination, rejection from family members, and struggles with self-acceptance. They require a therapy environment that is safe, inclusive, and affirming of their intersecting identities as a Latinx and queer individual. They need a therapist who understands the cultural nuances and challenges faced by both community. They need trauma-informed care.

You've spent your life being the strong one, the guarded one, the one who survives no matter what. Maybe you're exhausted from moving through a world that has never fully seen you, or from carrying the weight of environments where you didn't feel safe, affirmed, or free to just be yourself. You deserve a space where you don't have to carry that alone anymore.Hi, I'm Donita. I specialize in working with individuals from marginalized, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and Stud (Black lesbian and queer) communities who are looking for a therapy space where they can show up fully, without feeling judged, misunderstood, or pressured to shrink.

Sessions are navigated using evidence-based strategies such as mindfulness, somatic experiencing, CBT, Internal Family Systems and EMDR.
Are you feeling lonely, anxious or isolated? Or is your child struggling? Perhaps social media and smart devices are eroding their confidence and increasing their anxiety. Or maybe a traumatic event or childhood trauma has made life increasingly more difficult for you and your loved ones. Now may be the time to get help. I am seasoned adolescent, family and trauma therapist, with 25 years of experience working with teens, families, and adults. It's my belief that in a caring space where people feel heard and respected, change and growth is possible.

Have you had a spiritual or religious experience that feels real and meaningful—but difficult to explain? You might find yourself sensing guidance, connection, or communication in ways that don’t quite fit into everyday language. At times, these experiences can feel profound, even sacred. At other times, they can feel confusing or overwhelming. There’s space here to explore what’s happening—whether it relates to spirituality, faith, or something you’re still trying to understand—while also staying grounded, oriented, and connected to your day-to-day life.

Our therapists are trained in somatic modalities that release trauma.
As someone who suffered from anxiety & trauma, I can tell you that I spent years looking for the right therapist & I just wanted results. I knew I had the potential to achieve so much more and create a life that I was excited about living, but I didn’t know where to start. I saw many therapists over the years & I was sick of just TALKING & re-living things over and over without seeing improvement. Finally, I met a therapist that changed my life. He introduced me to brainspotting, & IFS. I was skeptical at first but I was open minded & tried it out. I learned that trauma is stored in the body & that talk therapy doesn’t address that.

I am a trained SOMATIC EXPERIENCING and EMDR Practitioner.
I infuse these approaches in my relationship based interpersonal approach making therapy feel safe and interesting. The modalities I use introduce people to parts of themselves that have been frozen or stuck in the past. This happens by having a new relationship to one's body, to a younger part of themselves or to protective parts that take over and prevent forward movement or cause relationship difficulties. You will become more curious, less judgmental and demanding of yourself freeing you to move ahead!

I believe that Psychotherapy is an in-depth collaborative creative process which allows freer and freer self-expression to create and expand therapeutic spaces, untold stories to be told, contradictions to be bridged, and emotions to be re-touched and re-experienced while integrating body-mind communication. I encourage you to access and mobilize the Cs of therapy in you, i.e. a commitment and connection with yourself, the curiosity to explore and understand your experiences and your creativity to open spaces and invent new journeys.

My ideal client is someone who recognizes a need and a desire for help. I often tell my client's that they are here because they desire to be heard, or for something to change because what they are currently doing is not helping. My hope is to walk alongside and expand our way of problem solving by assessing what is helpful. I believe you have the answer in knowing what work you want to engage in. My role as your therapist is to motivate and inspire us to work through our problems by gaining deeper insight over our 'why' through different tools.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
