I am a LCSW-R who works with individuals, couples and families to promote more peaceful and fulfilling relationships. I work primarily from a family systems perspective which looks at how family relationships inform the way we view ourselves and relate to others. Reconnecting with each other and learning to communicate more effectively is an integral part of therapy. I am especially passionate about working with couples, utilizing my training in RLT (see relationallife.com for further info), which effectively resolves issues and helps couples rebuild their relationships to be more connected, loving and joy filled.

I am a trauma and grief therapist as well as a mediator and parenting coordinator working with individuals and couples during all phases of the divorce process.
Our thoughts, beliefs and bodies reflect our emotional struggles. We often come to therapy when old ways of coping aren't working anymore- when we long for comfort, relief, or more authentic and deeper connections in our relationships. The whole person needs to be addressed in times of crisis, transition and loss. Healing is a word derived from the German hailjan- “to make whole.” I work with a holistic, acceptance-based and contemplative approach to psychotherapy. Practicing self-compassion and self- acceptance lead to less reactivity and more peaceful, integrated and intentional lives.

I offer bereavement counseling, support groups and conflict resolution including divorce mediation and parenting coordination via secure video or telephone conferencing.
Have you been impacted by loss due to Covid 19? Is isolation and social distancing causing you loneliness, anxiety or conflict in your family? Grief and mourning are being experienced as never before. Our traditional ways of coping - through the participation in rituals and communal gatherings, the hugs of loved ones and being with family - have been upended. The reality of not being able to be with loved ones, especially those who are ill or dying is traumatic. We are also having to negotiate with our family in new ways. I can help you find a path through these challenges.

I have a unique, interdisciplinary background as a seasoned and compassionate holistic psychotherapist (individual, couples, family), divorce/family mediator, child specialist, and divorce coach.
I use a holistic approach (nutrition, psychodynamic, health, CBT, DBT, wellness, Buddhism) to help patients become more aware of how their thoughts and emotions lead to unwanted behaviors and help them develop tools to use in the moment to break the behavioral pattern. This approach really works!

Another area of focus is children and families going through divorce.
With over 20 years experience, I have developed a level of insight that is critical in helping your child work through his/her issues. I seek to help you and/or your child live in the present instead of dwelling on the past and/or worrying about the future. I am an interactive participant with you and/or your child in the growth process. At our first meeting I want you to know coming to talk to me does not mean you are "crazy" or "weird." Instead you are brave and smart to face your issues and get help for them.

I view my therapeutic role as a partnership in which I listen carefully and guide the conversation so that I can "hear" underlying themes and connections I can then share with the client as we work toward resolving their difficulties. In providing information related to the client's concerns, my work is still psychodynamically informed. This is especially important for clients interested in learning about themselves and their relationships in a new way (their feelings, anxiety, causes of symptoms, or errors in judgment) in order to free themselves from the misunderstandings, confusion, and emotional "clutter" holding them back.

My practice invites you to come as you are and supports the journey home to your conscious, authentic self. My philosophies are spiritual, humanistic, and relationally-focused. I view humans holistically, as greater than the presence or sum of any part(s), with immense capacity to evolve beyond societally given ego identities. In this age of overzealous rationalism, I pledge the human heart feels most abundant when close and connected to others, not just in our partnerships or families, but within the collective consciousness and community in which we inhabit. The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.

Divorce Therapists
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
