Hi! I'm Erin Holmes. The clients who will use our services may be resistant to verbal expressions of therapy. They are interested in using a creative process to develop awareness of how self- care, impacts the relationships that we have with others, and the environment we create together. Persons of color, who have been traditionally marginalized or oppressed with no access to culturally relevant therapeutic services, will feel at home. Ultimately, our clients are interested in learning how their respective subcultures can strengthen their mind, body and spirit to assist them in moving through life's difficult transitions.

I work with clients who may be struggling with anxiety or trauma related to their relationships or family.
Therapy for Latinx individual who identifies as queer. They grew up in a traditional Latinx household where discussions about mental health were taboo, and expressions of queerness were often met with judgment or rejection. They have experienced various forms of trauma, including discrimination, rejection from family members, and struggles with self-acceptance. They require a therapy environment that is safe, inclusive, and affirming of their intersecting identities as a Latinx and queer individual. They need a therapist who understands the cultural nuances and challenges faced by both community. They need trauma-informed care.

Many of my clients come to therapy carrying anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, burnout, identity exploration, family stress, or the deep emotional exhaustion that comes from surviving in spaces that weren't built for them.
You've spent your life being the strong one, the guarded one, the one who survives no matter what. Maybe you're exhausted from moving through a world that has never fully seen you, or from carrying the weight of environments where you didn't feel safe, affirmed, or free to just be yourself. You deserve a space where you don't have to carry that alone anymore.Hi, I'm Donita. I specialize in working with individuals from marginalized, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and Stud (Black lesbian and queer) communities who are looking for a therapy space where they can show up fully, without feeling judged, misunderstood, or pressured to shrink.

I've tried to live my life by the word "YES", which I wrote on the rear of my VW van in the 70s. As I've aged, this has shown me the way through many difficulties. I studied Psychology in the 70s, eventually leaving doctoral work to open a Stained Glass studio, and eventually obtained a second MA degree in Social Work. leading to my work here. Along the way, I've explored many different therapeutic approaches and learned how to use them to fit the clients I work with.

I work extensively with young adults struggling with the transition into and out of college, who may be experiencing anxiety and depression, to help make sense of this difficult period in their lives; together we will collaborate and create a path forward.
I tailor my approach to what best suits you and your goals, integrating aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy, insight-oriented therapy and somatic awareness. Using a trauma-informed approach, I aim to increase awareness of your body and experience of emotions through concepts of mindfulness. I also prioritize the mind-body-spirit connection.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
