My goal is to help each client advance their awareness, enhance their
acceptance
, and empower their growth through restorative techniques and mindful wellness practices.
I believe therapy is a place where we learn to cope through feeling and find hope through healing; it opens a pathway for insight to be uncovered in our collective and ongoing balance between strength and struggle. I use an integrative approach to create a safe space that encourages clients to explore, gather, chart, untangle, and make-meaning of the beliefs and conditions that detail our existence.

I use behavioral, cognitive, mindfulness, and
acceptance
-based techniques and build partnerships with clients that are founded on warmth, dignity, and non-judgment.
Making the decision to begin therapy is an important step on the journey towards healing. As we navigate what feels like an increasingly complex and fatiguing world, we often find ourselves stuck in behavior patterns or relationships that remove us from important connections in our lives and lead to decision-making that is based on reactions to stress, rather than on our core values. It has been my honor to be a part of so many healing journeys and to support others as they develop a greater compassion for themselves, mindful presence in their lives, and flexibility for making change.

At times it may seem as if we're at odds with our mind. The thoughts and feelings we experience seem overwhelming. We can convince ourselves we're undeserving of contentment, love, happiness, success,
acceptance
, etc. Where does that come from and why is it so easy to believe? For those of us in the LGBTQIA+ community, there are added layers we need to work through, making it difficult for us to thrive. Therapy can play a meaningful role by providing a space to work through the layers, confront our hurtful thoughts and feelings, unburden ourselves of the past, and truly learn to thrive.

Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
) helps you accept the difficulties that come with life.
Life presents challenges to us all, but when anxiety, depression, chronic pain, chronic health conditions and stressful life circumstances get in the way of living, people may need help to implement new coping strategies. Therapy need not be an extended process. Effective approaches are short-term whenever possible. A major focus is to provide evidence-based and compassion-focused approaches.

Having a special interest in eating disorder treatment and related conditions my clients often have difficulty with issues of mood (especially anxiety and depression), lack of self-identity, fears of judgement and being alone, a craving for connection, a sense of not being understood, concerns about the future, and at times even self-hatred. The mental state of these types of conditions lead to an overwhelming, all-consuming thought process that is usually obsessional and demeaning. The goal of any patient is to learn how to rid fears, quiet intrusive thoughts and find a way to a more fulfilling life with some sense of inner peace.

My main goal as a therapist is to make myself unneeded. I will achieve this together with you by facilitating behavioral change for you and improving your ability to both establish and maintain relationships. We will work in sync to enhance your effectiveness and ability to cope. And our work together will help promote your decision-making process while boosting your potential. We will assess our success together by looking at a few different aspects of your life. For example: We will look for improvements in your moods and emotions have improved. Do you feel happier if you enter therapy for depression or sadness?

I have a long history of helping people who are struggling with various issues in life. My experience is extremely diversified and seasoned. My abilities come from lots of education and an abundance of my own life experience. I utilize various modalities of treatment and integrate whatever will work best for my patients. Therapy must start with you feeling safe, cared about, and valued. A good therapist will work on the three levels of mental health and prioritize your strengths.. You should always feel that you are in a safe non-judgemental environment and that you are with a safe, very smart, caring person whom you can trust.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
