Healing comes in many guises. We can heal from a cut hand with a band aid, we can heal from a broken bone by setting it and isolating it in a cast, but when we heal from hurting feelings and trauma, we're not as savvy on how to heal this. Sometimes, when we're traumatized, we don't know what to do to feel better.

You’ve found yourself here because you (or someone you care about) are struggling and you have an intense need to no longer feel consumed by emotional turmoil. While the mask you’ve perfected to conceal your pain has provided a sense of safety and security for some time, trying to keep it intact over and over again has become isolating, exhausting and burdensome. Regardless of what sparks the shift in your life to seek therapy, doing so is an act of bravery that deserves to be celebrated, and I have deep respect for all that you’ve experienced and the choices you've made along the way.

We can't always choose our burdens, but we can choose how we carry them. Some of us learned the only way to protect ourselves was to isolate, not getting out of bed, endlessly scrolling, and pulling away from the world. Some learned to be on alert, plan for the worst, be ready to fight, and never let their guard down. The good news is we aren't destined to repeat the same patterns for the rest of our lives. Learning to trust ourselves and protect ourselves in healthy ways rather than harmful ways is possible and more available than we think. I have many years of experience with psychedelic integration therapy & integrating NOSC.

I am a licensed psychotherapist dedicated to helping individuals establish a clear vision for their lives that incorporates both personal desires and professional goals. Different points in life present different challenges. Are you relatively new to the workforce and trying to figure out your career path? Do you feel stuck in a job or profession that you've outgrown? Has a life change (marriage, parenthood, eldercare) altered your priorities? Perhaps you're contemplating a life makeover but don't know how to proceed. These are areas where I can help.

My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed by the weight of their emotions—whether it’s anxiety that won’t quiet down, grief that lingers longer than expected, or past trauma that still shapes the present. They might be an adolescent struggling to find their voice, a young adult navigating identity and relationships, or someone simply trying to feel whole again. They come to therapy because they want relief, understanding, and a path forward.

If you’re not feeling like yourself lately, you’re not alone. Many Americans feel the country is out of control and is careening towards an existential crisis. Typical everyday stressors like work, relationships, and family are being exacerbated feelings of a loss of individual agency. We demand a lot of ourselves, and sometimes we feel that we’re not living up to our own standards, or that we’re not where we should be in our lives, that success and happiness might not even be achievable anymore. Therapy can help you get a sense of perspective, express your emotions, and regain a sense of self.

Meaningful change is possible, and it starts with taking the risk to do something different. That is brave work, and I am here to support people in doing it. I believe it is possible to relate to any experience in ways that help us grow. That doesn't mean it is easy. Life comes with difficulty, and it can be harder to navigate if we have not been able to address the impacts of past adversity and missing pieces. I've found self-compassion to be key in healing and growth, and it can be cultivated. My approach is collaborative, direct, and supportive. I welcome people as they are, and am open to learning from my clients.

I have extensive experience with Psychodynamic therapy and Schema therapy.
Do you struggle with relationships/dating, career, family, loneliness? Unfulfilling relationships, substance use, depression/anxiety and career challenges are often the catalysts that bring many people to my practice. While painful, these motivators to therapy can lead to lasting change. It is my strong belief that it is the relationship or therapeutic alliance between client and therapist that ultimately heals. I conduct psychotherapy through a LGBTQ-affirmative and a culturally humble framework.

Schema Therapy
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
