Transgender Therapists in Flushing, NY
My ideal clients include individuals exploring their gender identity, folks struggling with anxiety and OCD, queer and trans adolescents, and those looking to explore and larger patterns in their life.
I aim to help clients disentangle shame from identity, reconnect with their values, and move toward a life that feels more joyful and genuinely their own. As a trans person myself, I know what it is like to exist in contradiction to societal norms. That experience informs my practice.

I am a queer social worker who uses a relational approach that is motivated by empathy and support. My work focuses on how an individual interacts with the world around them because of the identities they hold. Together we can examine the strengths, needs and implications of those identities and how I can assist you. Life is hard. Asking for help can be almost as difficult as realizing you need it in the first place. Taking those first steps are hard, and I want to meet you where you’re at. With the world more isolating than ever, we need connection and places to talk about what’s going on in our lives.

In a rapidly changing world, one can find it challenging to deal with feeling mad, afraid, sad or even glad! My aim is to help alleviate that pain. I use an integrative approach to understand your life experiences, feelings, and the reason for seeking counsel. I believe each person already has in them the potential to grow. A personal transformation through the process of psychotherapy can help facilitate this growth. Eventually, this will give you a greater understanding of yourself, others and the world around you.

From a therapeutic perspective, I believe in "meeting people where they’re at." I also consider therapy a great way of finding what a beautiful life looks like for each and every person, with an understanding that we’re all different, but with some commonalities amongst us. I find that we can all find pockets of peace no matter how chaotic our lives are, and I love to help others find that too. I believe in combatting the “perfect” world social media has created by offering a real person to help support you, not a textbook robot.

I work with thoughtful adults who feel stuck in recurring relationships, thought patterns and behaviors. Many identify as anxious, avoidant, neurodivergent, or emotionally guarded. They often overthink, over-function, or shut down under stress and want connection that feels steady rather than chaotic. My approach helps them understand how attachment and nervous system patterns shape reactions, then build practical, sustainable skills for clearer communication, stronger boundaries, and more stable relationships.

“I just want to feel happy.” Or “why are relationships so hard for me?” Or maybe, “I wish I didn’t worry ALL the time.” If these lines have run through your mind, you’re not alone. And you’ve come to the right place! My style is warm, genuine, and practical. I use humor and honesty to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can be your true, authentic self. I believe the key to progress in therapy is developing insight into patterns (relationships, behaviors, and thoughts), while learning concrete skills to make real tangible changes in the here and now.

Shame, stress, oppressive narratives/systems, trauma, and neglect from caregivers can disconnect us from our bodies and minds. These harms create a cycle of shame and guilt which then we operate from. These disconnections can show up as: identity/sexuality issues, depression, anxiety, shame, and challenges with our interpersonal relationships. You want change but where do you start? By working together, we can safely work towards exploring the parts that are living inside of you that may need to be witnessed and un-shamed so that the whole person that already resides in you can operate as authentically as possible.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
