When we understand how our unconscious can control us, we are able to identify unhealthy patterns and better comprehend our feelings, behaviors, and thoughts. As a Jungian psychoanalyst, I engage with you to help you see your unconscious, become aware of your own power, and begin to live fully and with ease. I work with individuals to transform pain and past wounds to overcome such issues as addiction, relationship traumas, self-esteem, and sexual abuse . Breath work, body movement, dream interpretation, active imagination exercise, meditation, and painting all serve as media for healing and revealing unconscious truths.

Childhood sexual abuse ; depression; anxiety disorders; grief and loss; and the full range of mental health issues, problems and concerns are also treated.
Life's difficulties can be overwhelming at times. Reaching out for help is a courageous (positive) first step. I have over 39 years experience as a psychotherapist specializing in marriage and couples therapy, sex therapy, and mental health counseling, working with individuals, and couples. Blame is counter therapeutic and it is not allowed to become a focus of attention in treatment. Rather, emphasis is placed on developing strengths to overcome or manage problems more effectively. A main goal of therapy is helping people identify and access their strengths, as well as empowering them to lead more satisfying and healthier lives.

Hi! Two things about me, I am first generation Latina therapist from New York City and prioritize making therapy accessible. New York has an incredible skill of making us feel isolated. I am also a certified clinical trauma professional, with that I think it is important to note that trauma can be insidious in disconnecting of who we are and where we want to be. Combining who I am as a New Yorker along with being a Mental Health Clinician my goal is to support you in building connection, not just with me, or those around you but most importantly back to you. Together we can get back into the driver seat of life's challenges.

Typically, clients come to therapy because they're struggling in some way. Sometimes they can put a finger on it and call it anxiety, depression or trauma, but at other times struggle to define it. In many cases they've been to therapy multiple times before and still haven't found the relief they're seeking. Maybe they've made progress with certain issues, but still feel that pain and hurt lurk beneath the surface. Whatever it might be, there's something in their day-to-day which at least a part of them believes can be different.

Trauma is BIG...and small. It comes in many forms and at all stages of life. Do you sometimes have flashbacks to events that happened long ago? Do certain words, objects, people or places trigger you? Do you have nightmares? Do you wonder if perhaps something that happened that you can't forget was a traumatic event? Do you wonder if you suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? Did anyone ever tell you they think you have PTSD? I use a combination of IFS and EMDR to help you resolve PTSD, life conflicts and severe stressors. Take the next step to see if an All Day Intensive is right for you or regular hourly sessions works best.

With many challenges in today’s times, it can be difficult to maintain a positive outlook on life. These challenges can be a result from trauma, grieving the loss of a loved one, divorce, family conflict or identity issues. Other stressors can be school performance, loss of employment, suffering from an illness or injury, impacts from COVID-19, or immigration/deportation concerns which can make going through your day-to-day seem like an impossible task. The good thing is that there is help.

I have worked primarily within the Asian community with those who have been impacted by intimate partner/gender-based violence. Doing so taught me the importance of supporting self-determination, grounded/safe relationships, & honoring body ques. I am passionate about walking alongside clients while they work to dismantle the impact of harmful power structures in their lives. My hope is that through identity exploration, difficult life transitions, traumatic experiences, & all that life has in store that I may work collaboratively with clients to access their truest voice & experience wholeness personally and interpersonally.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
