The parts of ourselves that we struggle with are sometimes our greatest assets. Therapy can be a place to better realize our strengths and identify where long-term patterns of narratives and behaviors are no longer serving us. I am passionate about working with LGBTQ and POC on topics such as: gender/sexual identity, anxiety, depression,
OCD
, acculturation, racial identity, social skills, and relationships. My therapeutic approach incorporates both systemic and relational pieces. We do not exist in a vacuum. All of our experiences shape the person we are today.

Hello! We have yet to meet, but I’m already proud of you for seeking help. It’s incredibly hard and frustrating, especially if you’ve done it before, but the fact that you’ve started searching is a big deal. Were you told to "get over it?" Or, had your concerns and struggles dismissed? In my practice, we don't get over our difficulties - we work through them, and that takes time. I want to be there to help you through that journey. To feel supported and cared for. To heal in a safe, judgment-free space. And to gain a sense of control over your life.

In addition, I have special insight into intersectionality and what it means to have multiple identities. I work with clients who seek to incorporate and process their experience as an intersectional person.

I work with children, individuals & couples. In my work with children I engage them in a non-pressured environment using play & talk therapy as I work with them and their parents to help understand their world, increase awareness, promote effective communication & find meaningful solutions. I do a lot of work with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression or anger to learn to cope and express themselves. I selectively use family & interpersonal dynamics. I use EFT to help couples improve the intimacy and closeness that they crave in their marriage while improving communication and understanding.

Over my years of clinical practice I have worked with clients suffering from Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorders, ADHD, interpersonal, family and job and school related difficulties. Ideally, clients benefit most when we explore the issues to be worked on and when the client is flexible in allowing me to tailor treatment modalities to specific needs. At times we engage in psychodynamic psychotherapy and at times we implement cognitive behavioral interventions to make positive changes in the client's perspective, behaviors and relationships.

How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
