Life can start to feel heavy when anxiety, stress, or low mood begin to take up too much space.
I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, and difficult life transitions. Sometimes people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or not quite like themselves anymore. Other times they’re facing changes in relationships, work, or identity and want a place to sort things out.

As a CRPA-P my main goal is to compassionately empower others to either embark on or re-engage into their recovery journey from addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. As a person in long term recovery from such disorders and also a family member of loved ones struggling with the same conditions, I am uniquely positioned to connect with people who are sometimes thought of as unreachable. I employ my years of experience on both ends of the spectrum to help people let go of old ideas and enthusiastically participate in their own lives.

You do not have to carry this alone.
Life can feel overwhelming. You might be navigating intense anxiety, depression, or strained relationships. Major transitions and past trauma often leave you feeling exhausted, isolated, and stuck. Therapy offers a safe space to slow down. Together, we will look beneath the surface to understand your pain and begin your healing journey.

Therapy is more than a place to talk — it’s a space to pause, breathe, and gently untangle the experiences that have shaped you. I see each person as inherently resilient, even when life feels overwhelming. Within a supportive and nonjudgmental environment, we can begin to make sense of what’s been heavy, reconnect with your strengths, and create room for meaningful change.

I believe there is strength to be found in our weaknesses, love to be found through our pain, and light after our darkest days. The pain of healing comes with the self-awareness that otherwise may be over looked. When it becomes more painful to stay in our past then it is scary to step out of it is when the journey begins. I walk beside my clients, not in-front or behind. I remain steady and follow their lead. I provide the safety and hope that everyone needs to face their pain, to feel their pain, and to keep going anyway.

I practice psychotherapy from a relational lens; I believe meaningful change happens within a genuine, engaged relationship. I show up as myself in sessions: attentive, authentic, and human—because therapy doesn’t need to feel overly formal to be effective. There’s room here for both laughter and tears, and often they show up in the same session!

I have 10 years of experience supporting pre- teens, teens, young adults, and parents in navigating their daily "up's and down's" as a school counselor-turned-mental health clinician.
Hi! It’s great that you are exploring support- and you are not alone- at times, we all struggle to function at our best. While there is no 'magic fix', we all could use help during life's tougher times.
To have therapy is to have somebody on your side who listens to and understands your challenges to offer trusted, unbiased support- a person to ‘team up’ with to plan the steps that overcome your troubles.
In challenging times it’s easy to distract ourselves instead of dealing with the problems that keep us stuck in unhappy places. Unfortunately, before long they resurface in times, places, and ways we don't expect/recognize.

I am Teresa Horton, LCSW, Columbia University graduate. I discovered the field of social through my sister's chronic illness as a child. The hospital social worker who worked with my sister and family opened my eyes to the compassion that is needed in caring for and connecting to families undergoing unanticipated difficulties. As a child, I knew I wanted to help others with processing difficult life experiences.

My goal as a therapist is to help individuals recognize and break free from unhealthy relationship patterns rooted in people-pleasing, control, and self-neglect. My approach emphasizes building self-awareness, fostering healthy boundaries, and developing a stronger sense of self-worth. By exploring early attachments, family dynamics, and learned behaviors, I guide clients in understanding the roots of their behaviors and support them in creating healthier, more balanced connections.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
