Like Brett Butler or Lady Brett Ashley, I am a female with a traditionally male name. My background is as unique as my name, qualifying me to treat a diverse spectrum of people and issues. I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC). My specialty is trauma and dissociation and I am EMDR certified. I am also trained by ASCH in advanced clinical hypnotherapy. I take a person centered, holistic approach in my work and am strongly aware of the mind-body connection. Laughter, tears, breath, thoughts, feelings, behaviors: expect to explore them all!

Painful experiences can shake us to our core, often leading us to craft narratives about ourselves based on these challenges. These stories might leave you feeling misunderstood and struggling to forge a strong sense of self, especially when your lived experience doesn’t align with societal norms. This can manifest as debilitating symptoms, difficulty connecting with others, and damaging self-beliefs, causing you to question your inherent worth and identity. Despite what your inner critic may tell you, embracing your authentic self is possible.

If you have found my profile, you've already taken the first step toward helping yourself, perhaps the most difficult of them. That's something to be proud of! If you are looking for support toward healing past traumas or navigating any symptoms you may not even understand, such as anxiety or depression, we may be a great fit together. If you're tired of "being over dramatic", having nightmares, panic attacks or even, struggling to get out of bed, here's your sign to take that second step and reach out. Therapy can be scary but, so can the thought of being stuck in the cycle your body and mind are finding you in now.

Prior to becoming a forensic social worker, I spent 6 years working with victims of sexual assault, of all ages and genders.
My ideal client is motivated to work and understand the issues before them. They are able to take real talk, sprinkled with a little good natured sarcasm and humor, to tackle their challenges. I enjoy working with law enforcement and those who have served, but welcome anyone that feels that I might be a good fit for them. Any client that sees me should anticipate real talk about their current situations and reasons for seeking treatment. They will also soon know that they'll receive genuine compassion and solution focused conversations, to move them to a better place than where they were when they began the journey with me.

Everyone faces difficulties in life. These difficulties can be experienced as disappointment, challenge, adversity, or trauma. People cope with their struggles the best that they can with the resources they have available. When these difficult situations cause a person to have problems functioning, attaining their goals, or feeling satisfied with their life it can be helpful to work with a professional mental health therapist. This can help by having someone to talk with about their difficulties, especially if it is something traumatic that they struggle to share with other people in their life.

I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, struggling with shame, anxiety or relationship difficulties. Complex trauma often develops over time — through chronic stress, attachment wounds, emotional neglect, or repeated relational harm. Trauma can deeply impact one’s sense of safety, identity, and trust in others. I believe symptoms such as anxiety, dissociation, perfectionism, people-pleasing are not character flaws, but adaptive responses to experiences that once felt overwhelming or unsafe.

My approach blends trauma‑informed care, CBT, and motivational interviewing. I help you notice the thoughts and beliefs that shape your emotions, explore where they come from, and practice new ways of responding that feel more compassionate and sustainable.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
