I believe in order to be our most authentic selves we need to uncover the hidden parts of ourselves that hold pain, shame and grief to name a few.
If you are here, reading these words, you just took your first step towards healing! I welcome you to be open minded on your journey to heal the old wounds you may be carrying from past experiences. You may feel lost, scared, confused or just have an inner knowing it is time to make a change in your life. I am here to help you by guiding and supporting you in reaching your hopes and goals of building resilience; and creating a better connection to your whole self. My specialty is trauma, I work to address the root cause rather than the surface level issue. My ideal client is looking to go deep within to create lasting change.

Life can be hard at times and it can leave you feeling stuck and hopeless, but there is hope. I believe you deserve to live a life in which you are thriving instead of surviving. I can help you begin to understand, transform, and heal your pain so that you can live a fulfilling and meaningful life. One of the bravest things we can do is to begin to understand ourselves and you don’t have to go on that journey alone. I will provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space to foster your healing journey. “When we have the courage to walk into our story and own it, we get to write the ending” -Brene Brown

Maybe you’ve been juggling a big change, feeling weighed down by past pain that still echoes today, or wondering why you just can’t seem to feel like yourself lately. You’ve been carrying it all, but you don’t have to keep doing it alone. I’m here to help you sort through the hard stuff, make sense of what’s been holding you back, and start creating the kind of life that feels lighter, calmer, and more you. Together, we’ll talk, laugh when we can, cry when we need to, and find your way forward one step at a time.

We are not lost. We are not hopeless. Allowing these feelings to be felt is key to moving forward through the experience. I primarily work with individuals navigating grief, emotional pain, and the effects of challenging or overwhelming life experiences.
To be seen and known by others is an incredible feeling of connection but it means being authentic and vulnerable. Sadly, we live in a time with the illusion of connection while being more disconnected than ever. You may feel disconnected from others and even from yourself. Though you are a gift to this world, it is often blocked and unexpressed. This may leave you feeling alone and invisible. The truth is, you may be starving for deeper connection and that starvation looks like depression, anxiety, stress, and more. When you are living disconnected, you are abandoning yourself.

We work with adults, children, and adolescents who are struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, grief and loss, PTSD, trauma, behavioral challenges, stress, and much more.
Our intensive trauma-focused therapy is proven-effective and focuses on deep healing. We have found that intensive trauma-focused therapy is more efficient than weekly hourly therapy. Often weekly hourly therapy focuses on your symptoms and coping skills such as yoga, mindfulness, biofeedback, DBT, etc. Our intensive trauma therapy focuses on healing the underlying trauma and giving you profound and lasting relief. We use the most efficient of the proven-effective trauma healing therapies: eye movement desensitization & reprocessing (EMDR) and progressive counting (PC). Our founder and executive director, Ricky Greenwald, PsyD, is a leading expert in EMDR, and the developer of PC as well as our intensive therapy model. In NY, our therapy is provided through the independent practice of Ricky Greenwald, PsyD. All of our therapists are extensively trained, supervised, and experienced in intensive trauma therapy.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
