Everyone can benefit from having a trusting relationship and receiving validation. From that basis, in a non-judgmental interaction people can begin to get clarity on their wants and needs. From enhancing self-esteem to setting boundaries and resolving anxiety/depression people can change.

Stress comes in many shades, regardless of what we face, with no discrepancies of importance, changing how we feel begins with changing our perspective. I aim to guide you through these life challenges and rebuild the mindset that these negative encounters have influenced.

I also have expertise with families struggling with ongoing divorce and custody issues.
Many people enter therapy concerned that they will have to make dramatic changes in their lives to find relief. I believe that therapy is not dramatically changing who we are, but rather looking at how our perceptions of ourselves and others create unfulfilling experiences. I think my role as a therapist is to work with each individual to identify their strengths and enhance what is already working for them while examining the patterns that keep them from living life to its fullest.

Sometimes in life we experience overwhelming stress, anxiety or depression. Psychotherapy can help us realize that we can make through a difficult time. Whether it be an adjustment to getting older, marital problems, divorce, children moving out and on to college or just an overall "foggy" or "blah" feeling, psychotherapy can help. If you feel as if problems have become unmanageable on your own give a call.

Another part of my practice that is very effective is Group Therapy. On those rough days, instead of driving yourself crazy contemplating divorce, take a step that can actually make things better.
You wish your spouse knew how to love you the way you want to be loved. Over the last year, the stress on your marriage has led you to a breaking point. Everyone in your house has been working and learning from home, crammed in on top of each other. All the normal outlets for fun have vanished. Meanwhile, communication between you and your spouse has hit an all-time low. Every morning, you politely tiptoe around each other in the kitchen, performing a ballet of indifference as you navigate the tense silence that’s taken root between you. The hurt and resentment keep piling up. The stage is set for another explosion.

My style and beliefs are to create a safe environment within which individuals, couples, and families can explore their issues and challenges. I do this using brief solution focused therapy embedded in a narrative view. This means that I assist people in seeing their lives in more healthy ways as they overcome the challenges in their lives. This occurs in an atmosphere of empowerment and growth.

My ideal client is one that is motivated for change; one that recognizes what they have been doing or trying to do is not working presently. My ideal client is open to considering multiple perspectives and to possibilities. They are seeking a therapist who is oriented toward relationships, those they have with themselves, with others, and with the multiple systems, contexts, and cultures within which each client exists and functions.

Divorce Therapists
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
