I integrate meditation and other cognitive strategies to treat anxiety, depression , postpartum issues and grief.
I have been a psychotherapist for almost 40 years. I love my work. I dedicate myself to my practice which means I am spiritually orientated. I learn as much from you as a human being as you do from me. The difference being... that you do not have to take care of me! I am a seasoned therapist. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and depression . I work with couples who are struggling with intimacy. I am experienced in teaching mindfulness as a spiritual tool. I treat grief....the loss of a partner, a child or a beloved pet. I am comfortable with tough problems...but i believe laughter an humor play a crucial role in therapy.

For 30+ years, I have worked with people with a wide range of issues, but my areas of specialization are in relationship difficulties, anxiety and depression , and addictions, including alcoholism, eating disorders, and body image problems.
If you are seeking therapy it means you are wise enough to know you can do something about your problems and brave enough to try. For each person therapy is a unique collaboration. While I use my training in psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, cognitive behavioral treatment, and family therapy as guidance, success depends on paying careful attention to a client's personal history, life situation, and current goals. While the past shapes us and is always with us, your "here and now" issues are the focus, as we emphasize and reinforce your strengths while also addressing problems.

My specialties include: relationships and family; stress, anxiety, depression ; chronic pain and illness; eating disorders; anger and love; women's and men's issues.
My goal is to help people feel and function better in love, work, play and inner peace. Life is often challenging and stressful. Sometimes we feel lost. Most of us engage in self-defeating beliefs, patterns and behaviors which leads to unhappiness and life dissatisfaction. The goal of therapy is to change these negative ways of feeling and being. When I have asked clients what has been most helpful in therapy, the most common response is " You helped me see things from a new perspective, which ultimately led to positive changes in how I think, feel, behave and relate to others".

If you are having problems with depression , anxiety, relationships, work, creative issues, or issues with being single (divorced, separated, widowed etc.
I treat individuals and couples using both short and long term treatment techniques. There is a writers' saying: 'How can I know what I think until I hear what I say?' This applies to psychotherapy as well. Talking about your problems and concerns with a trained, empathic listener is often the best way to discover both your issues and their solutions. I use a great deal of humor and compassion in my work. Psychotherapy is particularly helpful in working with relationships, career issues and ambivalence in choices.

I offer couples counseling and individual psychotherapy, and use a great deal of humor and compassion in my work. I work psychoanalytically (seeking unconscious motivations) and cognitively, looking at present issues and challenges. This means that I utilize both short-term AND long-term therapeutic methodologies. I specialize in working with people who are depressed , anxious, suffering from sexual or relationship issues, daunted by the problems they face, or who find themselves creatively blocked, or not living up to their potential in their vocation, or who wish to guide their careers to new heights and new directions.

Anxiety/ depression ; bereavement/grief; PTSD.
Mindfulness. Intention. Contemplation. Faith. Prayer. God. A Higher Power. Detachment. Discernment. Spirituality. What do these mean? What role do they play in helping people with "problems in living"? I believe they are essential practices, together with psychotherapy, which can produce transformation in our thinking and behavior. If interested in exploring these ways of "knowing", contact me. As both a psychotherapist of 35 years and Spiritual Director, I welcome the opportunity to explore and discuss their meaning with you.

Where there are issues of addiction, depression and difficult early attachment, I draw on my experience as a supervising psychologist in inner city hospitals.
I work with adolescents, adults and couples. To explore unsatisfying relationships and issues of personal identity, I draw on concepts from dynamic, relational and cognitive behavioral psychology. I see psychotherapy as a collaboration, a co-creation between therapist and patient.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in East Hampton. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
