Each of us have faced painful personal experiences. Pain can be due to events, interactions with others or troubled relationships. Or they can be caused by negative behavior or thought patterns that won’t stop. Sometimes we can address such troubles on their own. However, if you have been unable to resolve difficult issues alone, you may realize how they reduce the quality of your life – by establishing a pattern of emotional problems, an inability to interact productively with others, impacting your career, negatively affect relationships, or create problematic habits. But they can be addressed with help. My hours are M-F 8-4

Accepting New Clients. Authentic, respectful, accepting: I offer a therapeutic relationship and evidence-based treatment to help you live your best life. I believe that unresolved issues and problems have the power to control the direction of our lives and cause real pain. This pain can take the form of depression, anxiety, trouble regulating emotion, sleep problems and poor self esteem. Problems in relationships as well as coming to terms with loss can often be the hardest ones. Difficulties at work and questioning career choice are other important areas of our life that can be negatively effected.

Patients come to my practice looking to better their lives. They often come with a presenting problem that has brought them in at this specific point in time and they are seeking resolution and relief from that situation. However, in addition to more short-term, symptom relief, many patients come hoping to attain a better understanding of themselves from the inside out — from their thoughts to their behaviors. In short, they are trying to increase their awareness and understanding of themselves in an attempt to improve the quality of their relationships and their lives.

Life can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to carry everything by yourself. I hope to offer a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgment. Whether you’re navigating a painful past, a difficult present, or an uncertain future, my goal is to help you find clarity, strengthen your resilience, and move forward with confidence. If you’re willing to be reflective and open, I’ll meet you with that same level of commitment. I work best with people who want to understand the “why” behind their experiences, not just the “what.”

One of the best decisions you can make is to reach out and ask for help. I am that hand you can grasp for compassionate care and direction as you gain a better understanding of yourself. Anxiety and depression can make you feel alone and helpless. They are not easy mental health disorders to navigate without help. You are not alone. I am here with you along your journey as you become better aware of how you can take control and overcome the struggles you may have with panic attacks, sadness, and mood disorders. I am ready to listen and help you regain control of your life.

I draw from cognitive behavioral and dialectal therapy, in addition to motivational interviewing, family systems, and psychodynamic principles.
My ideal clients are folks that are new to therapy or have been before but are looking for something new. These clients most likely come from a family that is blended, high conflict and/or has a history of estrangement. They are often times navigating relational grievances or has endured losses of loved ones, and they are seeking help in processing their grief. My therapy is a place of exploration. It includes a warm space to think critically about one's self and explore their experience in the world and how they contribute to their experience. It's a place to be heard and truly listened to, without judgement.

Are you hoping to better understand yourself, your romantic relationships, or your family dynamics? Are things feeling different in your romantic relationship? Are you noticing recurring challenges in how you communicate or express yourself? Therapy can be a space to reflect, explore and create meaningful change. I view problems through a relational lens. This means I believe romantic partners, family, friends, colleagues and how we view ourselves shape our identity, how we feel, act, and more. I observe relational dynamics, attachment patterns, and the stories people tell about themselves and others.

Therapy can be scary and I understand how overwhelming it may feel to begin the treatment process. Therefore, it is my goal to create a safe, comfortable and judgement free environment for each of my clients. Together, it is my hope to build a trusting, therapeutic relationship to support each client's healing and growth. I believe that it is my role as a therapist to allow each client to be heard and to guide them through the change process in a way that makes sense for them. I use a person-centered approach to therapy and a combination of mindfulness, cognitive behaviorial therapy (CBT), and problem solving treatment.

Often the hardest part of solving problems is finding the right person to help you. Since therapy can be an exciting, challenging, and at times a daunting process, it is important to know that you are working with a therapist who is experienced with the issues you are struggling with.

You've survived trauma, toxic relationships, or feeling unsafe growing up—and learned to cope by shutting down, staying alert, or people-pleasing. Now those patterns leave you anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected. You want real change, not just insight. You're ready to be challenged in a supportive, collaborative way. You want stronger boundaries, deeper connection, and to stop repeating the past. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Syracuse, NY, I specialize in trauma, complex PTSD, and couples therapy. I offer in-person sessions in Syracuse and virtual therapy throughout NY State and the DC area.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
