Each of us have faced painful personal experiences. Pain can be due to events, interactions with others or troubled relationships. Or they can be caused by negative behavior or thought patterns that won’t stop. Sometimes we can address such troubles on their own. However, if you have been unable to resolve difficult issues alone, you may realize how they reduce the quality of your life – by establishing a pattern of emotional problems, an inability to interact productively with others, impacting your career, negatively affect relationships, or create problematic habits. But they can be addressed with help. My hours are M-F 8-4

Accepting New Clients. Authentic, respectful, accepting: I offer a therapeutic relationship and evidence-based treatment to help you live your best life. I believe that unresolved issues and problems have the power to control the direction of our lives and cause real pain. This pain can take the form of depression, anxiety, trouble regulating emotion, sleep problems and poor self esteem. Problems in relationships as well as coming to terms with loss can often be the hardest ones. Difficulties at work and questioning career choice are other important areas of our life that can be negatively effected.

Hi, I’m Rebecca. I’m a licensed therapist in New York and California with over a decade of experience supporting adults through times of change—both expected and unexpected. Life transitions can be exciting, disorienting, painful, or all of the above. Whether you’re starting or ending college or grad school, navigating a career shift, adjusting to postpartum changes, moving through perimenopause, facing retirement, or coping with grief and loss, these moments can bring up questions about identity, purpose, and how to move forward. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

By combining mindfulness skills with cognitive therapy tools, we’ll free up energy that you can channel into necessary self-care.
You finally left the office after another long day. This should be when you can take a deep breath and relax, but it’s not. The day’s stress is still with you, and you have no way to shut it off. And in some ways, this is more comfortable for you. You’ve spent so long training yourself to ignore your own needs that it’s easier to stay focused on everyone and everything else. But lately, you’ve begun to wonder what it’s all for. You see other people enjoying full lives. Meanwhile, you’re stuck in this narrow existence. You love your career, but there must be more to life than this. Now is the time to make a change.

I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. It is often hard for us to accept help due to society’s belief that we should “handle it” on our own. These unhelpful thinking patterns impact how we interact in our relationships, as well as how we process things as they are happening. I strive to work with clients through the hard times while making the process as enjoyable as possible. We can get caught in bad relationships, trauma cycles, grudges, and anger.

Our work together could include incorporating mindfulness techniques, developing coping strategies, attunement with your emotions, and identifying themes and patterns.
I believe that our early experiences and relationships shape our adult behavior and emotions and that by exploring these patterns in a safe and supportive environment, we can gain insight and make meaningful changes in our lives.  I specialize in working with adults who seek psychotherapy for anxiety, navigating relationships, and life transitions.

If you’re feeling stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand - like people-pleasing, shame, or behaviors you wish you could change, you’re not alone. Many of the people I work with are navigating big life transitions, healing from complex trauma, or feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, or self-doubt. Therapy can be a place to slow down, get curious, and begin to shift those patterns with compassion rather than judgment.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
