Accepting New Clients. Authentic, respectful, accepting: I offer a therapeutic relationship and evidence-based treatment to help you live your best life. I believe that unresolved issues and problems have the power to control the direction of our lives and cause real pain. This pain can take the form of depression, anxiety, trouble regulating emotion, sleep problems and poor self esteem. Problems in relationships as well as coming to terms with loss can often be the hardest ones. Difficulties at work and questioning career choice are other important areas of our life that can be negatively effected.

I also address behavioral issues in children due to an adjustment such as divorce or separation of parents as well as any school related concerns.
I have been working with clients for over 20 years. I feel most comfortable addressing individual struggles from a strength based perspective. Anxiety, depression and trauma related issues are addressed by utilizing a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as well as from a Family Systems perspective. This, I believe, allows the client to achieve the most success and a clearer understanding of their own struggles and how to overcome them.

I’m so glad you’re here! Therapy with me is a space where you can be yourself, take a breath, and explore what’s really going on— without judgment. I’m a firm believer people do the best they can with what they know and nobody deserves to suffer alone. Are you a teen or young adult who often feels sad, irritable, or completely drained? Does anxiety sit like a constant weight on your chest? Maybe you’re stuck in self-doubt, struggling with body image, or feeling like you’re never enough. Or as a parent, you feel lost and unsure how to support your child.

You can seem like you’ve got things handled and still second-guess almost everything you say or do in relationships. You might send a text and then keep rereading it, wondering if it sounded weird, too much, or not clear enough. In conversations, you may hold back what you actually think, then later wish you had said it differently or said it at all. It can feel easier to go along with things than risk tension or being misunderstood, even when something doesn’t sit right with you. Over time, that turns into constantly questioning yourself and not really trusting your own judgment.

You finally left the office after another long day. This should be when you can take a deep breath and relax, but it’s not. The day’s stress is still with you, and you have no way to shut it off. And in some ways, this is more comfortable for you. You’ve spent so long training yourself to ignore your own needs that it’s easier to stay focused on everyone and everything else. But lately, you’ve begun to wonder what it’s all for. You see other people enjoying full lives. Meanwhile, you’re stuck in this narrow existence. You love your career, but there must be more to life than this. Now is the time to make a change.

Couples in all stages come to therapy. Whether love is new and they're trying to figure out life's challenges before taking the next step, or love is old and familiar but maybe it hasn't been working well lately (or for the last several years). It's best to come in and sit down with a third party not connected to your family or friends and be able to sort through everything in a supportive and safe environment. I even work with people who have decided not to be a couple, but are committed to co-parenting.

Divorce Therapists
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
