I work with clients who may be struggling with symptoms of ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma, and alcohol/ substance use disorders.
It may have taken a long time, but you've taken the first step in getting help, that is a big deal! Your day-to-day struggles may be a big deal, too. It might feel like you are always busy and all over the place, yet never feeling like you got anything done. Maybe you're struggling with managing intense emotions and navigating relationships. You find it impossible to get yourself to do things that you want and need to do- it feels as though there's a "block". Racing thoughts are leading to anxiety and you just want to be able to get yourself together. Executive function deficits (also known as ADHD) might be the reason.

My specialties include behavioral health, substance use disorders, and anger management.
As a mental health counselor, I am passionate about helping others live happier, healthier, and more authentic lives. Whether this means overcoming a specific challenge, navigating life change, or treating a specific diagnosis—my treatment approach is person-centered, collaborative, and holistic. I believe that we are "masters of our own ship", as they say; and with the power of therapeutic insight, we learn to understand and navigate turbulent emotions as we steer towards healthy change.

Life can be very challenging and demanding at times and can often leave us feeling confused, lonely, depressed, and anxious. I believe that addressing our mental health and emotional well being is as important as taking care of our physical health.

Please notice that until June 1st, 2025, I will only be taking new patients willing to do analysis in Spanish. / This applies only to prospective insured patients (Anthem/Blue Shield). / Why you suffer may not be obvious; the pain is real, its reasons may be not. To find them out, the difficult, but rewarding work of a psychoanalysis is needed. As your analyst, I will help you identify the forms and the logic of your suffering and, as a result, your reality will begin to change. Many things may be inevitable, but not useless, excessive suffering. The latter can be fundamentally changed, if properly addressed.

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
