Helping others meet their wellness goals is a passion of mine, and I believe everyone deserves to be heard and valued. Having worked in service fields for many years the transition to counseling was a natural progression for me. ‍ I am excited to work with individuals in one-on-one counseling as well as in a group setting. Over the course of my adult life I have worked extensively with individuals battling obesity, binge eating disorder and food addiction and something that I have learned is that guilt and shame are roadblocks that prevent us from moving forward.

You may have spent years adapting to chaos, walking on eggshells, taking care of others, or feeling responsible for everyone's emotions. Perhaps relationships leave you anxious, self-doubting, or disconnected from yourself. Maybe you've been told you're "too sensitive," yet learned to function by pushing through exhaustion and ignoring your own needs. I specialize in working with adults who grew up in unpredictable, emotionally immature, or high-conflict families, Highly Sensitive Persons (HSPs), neurodivergent adults, and those struggling with attachment wounds, relationship trauma, or the lingering effects of difficult childhoods.

I offer counseling for individuals and couples who feel stuck in painful emotional or relational dynamics and want things to start improving. If you find yourself encountering the same patterns and wondering why change feels so difficult, we can work to explore what’s behind these patterns and reconnect with what matters to you. Our work might involve making small, practical changes that bring relief to your everyday life. Or, we may start to explore emotions that haven't had space before. Our goal is for you to be able to live in a way that is fulfilling and authentic to the person you are.

Surviving childhood sexual abuse or complex trauma can leave you feeling fragmented, disconnected, or unreal.
Survivors often fear their story is too much to share. My work at NYC’s Department of Health sexual health clinics and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and training in psychodynamic, somatic, and person-centered approaches, taught me that even the inhumane is human. My task is to meet people in their full humanity, without fear or avoidance.

I specialize in complex trauma, sexual abuse, and what is often referred to as Borderline Personality Disorder.
For people who have experienced developmental/complex trauma, life can be incredibly painful with many different issues and symptoms that can feel so overwhelming. In therapy, we can help you access and work through the underlying wounding that has lead to the ways you have learned to protect yourself. I believe that at each person's core lays the capacity for deep healing and connection, and it is within the context of safe relationships that we can access that I believe that the therapeutic relationship serves as a sacred space where individuals can feel seen, heard, and valued without judgment.

I offer individual psychotherapy for adults with a focus on trauma healing and treatment. I also support people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, mood disorders, relationship issues, and other stressors. I practice through a social justice lens and believe that our experiences can only be understood within the political and social contexts in which we live. As part of our therapy, we explore how social systems and structural oppression have impacted your beliefs about yourself, your relationships, and the world around you.

I believe life can get better. My style is active and emotionally connected, always respectful of the client's concerns, whether working with adults, children, or teens. My training helps me see the "big picture," but my skills include the flexibility to focus on concrete issues. Problems are quickly identified, because therapy does not have to last for years. Yet, many clients find value in examining life over the long term, within a warm, accepting therapeutic relationship, colored by directness, honesty, and humor.

Sometimes it's difficult to know the full extent of the way our trauma and life experiences have impacted us. We find ourselves repeating certain patterns that we know are not good for us and can't seem to break the chain, we constantly fall into moods and feelings that it's difficult to pull ourselves out of. In deciding to do therapy with me, together we learn how to identify the ways in which your past trauma and life experiences show up in your adult life and begin rewriting your narrative for your future.

My therapeutic focus encompasses a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss (which includes a myriad of losses), and the profound impact of childhood sexual abuse.
Among the approaches I use in my practice are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, strength-based therapy, mindfulness practices, and trauma-informed techniques. Also, the genogram is utilized to help clients uncover and understand generational family patterns that may contribute to current challenges.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
