I have experience working with a wide range of issues, including depression , anxiety, stress related disorders, Type A personalities and relationships.
Life can be very challenging at times and our usual way of managing doesn't work as effectively as it used to. Our coping skills aren't helping us to feel a sense of control and well-being and we end up feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, we can't sleep well, we under eat or overeat, experience mood changes and possible difficulties managing work, relationships and home life. I am committed to helping you understand what you are going through, developing strategies to make changes, assisting you with stress reduction so that you feel more comfortable within yourself and your life.

Specifically, I am experienced and trained in evidence-based practices to treat depression , anxiety/fear, substance use, and trauma in children/adolescents/adults as well as inappropriate or concerning sexual behavior in children/adolescents.
Acknowledging that you or your child need support is the first step in the therapeutic process. Due to the complex nature of the relationships in our lives, it is often helpful have a neutral person to offer a listening ear, guidance, and to facilitate a process of gaining more insight about yourself. My goal is to support you, your child, and/or your family in your own unique process. I can help you in identifying and regulating emotions, stopping negative thoughts and patterns, overcoming challenges, strengthening relationships and utilizing healthy coping skills. I look forward to connecting with you and/or your child.

Imagine taking an hour for yourself or your child to feel better! To slow down and learn tools to handle depression , anxiety, school, work and your relationships.
Isn’t this the worst?! Has something just happened and you feel like you’ve had enough and are going to try therapy? At some point in our lives we have all felt not good enough, not like ourselves or worried about the future or social situations. It can be really painful to go through your daily life feeling overwhelmed and inadequate.

Are you feeling stuck? Many people seek therapy when they are lacking energy or direction in some aspect of their life. Sometimes sadness won't leave. Or anxiety grows. Often past hurt and trauma interferes with daily life. Or it is difficult to negotiate one of life's transitions: finding or changing work life; partnering/marrying; moving/settling; separating/divorcing: birth; aging; illness and pain, or death of a loved one. Whatever the reason for seeking help we decide on the goals, charting a clear path for the journey to emotional health and greater satisfaction in life.

People thinks you have it together all of the time. Really, you are overwhelmed spending all your energy making it look so. No one would know you are highly stressed, both at work and at home. You take care of everyone else's needs before your own, and while its exhausting, you feel too guilty to put yourself first. You have always succeeded in school and in work because that was what was expected of you. However, you know you are not living your truth. You know it's because you never took the time to figure out what truly fulfills you. As you try to sleep your heart pounds while you criticize yourself for not being good enough.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
