Counselor, LMHC

I have over 10 years of experience helping children, adults, teens, and couples in crisis.
Working with children, individuals , adults, and couples are extremely rewarding. The process of watching my clients improve displays their dedication to therapy. Unfortunately there is no “quick fix “ and the process takes effort on both parts of a counseling relationship. Offering support and teaching coping skills and cognitive restructuring helps my clients move forward with a healthy and positive attitude and view of life. My calm demeaner and relaxed and positive view of life helps with building rapport and strong therapeutic relationships with my clients.

I work with adults and adolescents dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal difficulties, substance abuse, and grief.
As humans, we are incredibly adaptable and will find a way to cope with our circumstances until we may find our management strategies to be causing more harm than help. At that point I offer a non-judgmental, empathic space to work together to develop understanding and alternate tools that empower us.

My biggest takeaway throughout my clinical career is understanding the perplexity of mental health and how all too often, people can be misunderstood when we don’t take the time to listen. I am a strong believer in meeting the client where they are and not forcing the therapeutic process. My engagement skills revolve around maintaining flexibility and no judgement with whomever is in the room with me. It is vital to understand that our challenges don’t define us and we must value every person as an individual, not by their diagnosis, disability or trauma history.

I have spent more than 2 decades working with children & adolescents with a focus on ADHD, behavioral problems, depression and anxiety issues.
I work best with those who are willing to be open to the therapeutic process. Yes, it can be scary but willing to do it scared if needed. I am here to walk besides you. My clients often seek me out because of life's issues that are causing them anxiety or depression symptoms, grief, trauma, relationship or substance use issues.

Struggling with pornography, sex addiction, or compulsive sexual behavior? Caught in the aftermath of infidelity — whether you're the one who strayed or the one who was betrayed? Carrying the weight of sexual trauma or secret behaviors you can't stop? You might be a man of faith, a ministry leader, or simply someone whose values and actions have stopped matching up. The shame is real. So is the exhaustion of carrying something this heavy, alone. Many arrive here tangled in relapse, codependency, and the weight of a double life. You're not here by accident. That matters.

We are born innately curious, equipped with tools and perseverance to succeed in life. We are so strong and capable, full of great intuition and instincts. As babies and young children, we know our own truth and speak it confidently. As we grow, in order to fit in with life and society around us, we compromise our needs and ideals. We want to please others and feel acceptance. As a result, we may sacrifice our own beliefs. Trauma and oppression become obstacles in our path to healthy relationships, with our self and others. We feel individual, collective, and societal pain.

People decide to begin therapy for a variety of reasons. Many have had painful or traumatic experiences that they are unable to move past. Some feel stuck in unhelpful thought patterns or behaviors, or struggle to find fulfillment in relationships or at work. Others may feel burdened with excessive worry, or with feelings of low self worth and inadequacy. I believe that recovery involves healing of the mind and body, and I use several modalities, including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in supporting your healing.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
