People who work best with me are those who feel caught in between what the world tells them they should be and what they want for themselves. You’ve been thinking about how to take that next step to break free, but you’re still hoping for clarity, and likely a sense of certainty of what you’ll encounter. You have a hunch that pushing through despite not knowing what’s ahead is the way to go, and a little more than a nudge would go a long way.

In the journey of life, we all face challenges that can weigh heavily on us. Sometimes these challenges, and the effort expended in overcoming them, cast a heavy darkness on our heart and mind. Whether those challenges are grappling with anxiety, navigating the depths of depression, confronting past traumas, or navigating the complexities of identity within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum - know that you are not alone.

Are you tired of therapy that just feels like venting? You want more than someone simply nodding while you spiral—you want real, actionable change. Many of the thoughts quietly running your life were handed to you by family, religion, or society. Along the way, you picked them up and called them truth. I know what it’s like to confuse distorted thinking for self-awareness—believing "I must be perfect" or "I am broken." As an openly gay therapist, I’ve navigated these narratives personally. Together, we will dismantle the beliefs keeping you stuck, creating a safe space to actively heal from minority stress and shame.

On the outside, life may look fine—marriage, children, work. But inside, you feel the strain. Past pain shows up in your relationships: difficulty trusting, feeling distant from your spouse, disconnected from your children, or even cut off from yourself or Hashem. You may shut down to cope, overreact when triggered, or feel stuck in patterns that keep you from real closeness. Even when things seem “good,” there’s often a fog, a heaviness, or an ache for peace you can’t seem to find. Living this way is exhausting, and you’re ready for more than just coping—you want real change.

My approach is relational and grounded in attachment theory and ACT.
You might be the one who always shows up by saying yes even when you’re exhausted, smoothing things over, and keeping the peace. On the outside you seem dependable but inside you may feel overwhelmed, resentful, or unsure where your needs fit. If you grew up being the responsible one or emotional caretaker, it makes sense those roles follow you into adulthood. You may feel responsible for others’ feelings, find difficulty in setting boundaries, worry about being a burden, or get anxious when someone is upset with you. These patterns aren’t personal failures; they’re survival strategies that once kept you safe.

I am a Board Certified Neurologist. At first when I graduated from residency, I was gung ho on prescribing meds. But after years of treating patients with headaches, neck pain, back pain, I’m not so gung ho on most meds any longer. Now I see that I have much better results when I discuss nutritional approaches to neurology and pain. If you are open to looking at your headaches, neck, back pain with more options than meds, call us 914-862-0880. We are located 45 minutes north of Grand Central on the Metro-North Hudson Line at the Croton-Harmon station, right across of the train parking lot.

Life can be unpredictable. Whether you’re a planner or live spontaneously, significant life events happen, and they often occur without warning and in situations that are beyond our control. We are all brought into this world by no choice of our own, and the environment we are raised in paves the way for how we cope with stress and adapt to changes and transitions in life; many which we may be unprepared for. We may be able to make some adjustments to change our path, but other times it’s not that easy and we might need a little extra support and guidance. And that’s ok!

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
