Many of us have thoughts and feelings that yank us away from peace, joy and fulfillment. Past experiences and current life situations can seem so overwhelming and unmanageable that we abandon hope for a better life. If this sounds familiar, I can help. As a therapist with over 25 years of experience, I work collaboratively with clients to help them identify and achieve their goals, learn ways to manage difficult thoughts, feelings and memories, and help build habits that will enable them to effectively get through challenging and difficult situations. Do you ever wonder why you’re not feeling great emotionally & can’t pinpoint the root cause exactly? I work from an emotionally driven place. What that means is together we will explore your feelings & peel away the layers until we figure out what is happening inside to trigger these negative emotions. My role in your journey through healing and finding your inner peace is to gain an understanding of where we are coming from and sort through the chaos and turmoil we feel inside. From there we can work our way up & create new beginnings with new positive emotions and gain a renewed sense of being, a renewed sense of purpose.

I help facilitate change so
family
members can move out of rigid roles and towards more authentic and satisfying relationships.
My expertise is working with couples who want to improve their communication and resolve conflict harmoniously. Strong emotions such as anger, depression, and anxiety can stymie resolution or reconciliation. Are you both committed to your relationship, but struggling to resolve a conflict or get along? Learning how to process the dynamics in your relationships can empower you to make the changes you desire - including recovery from infidelity. I get excited when I have the opportunity to help couples find connection in the midst of the conflict. I also work with individuals who want help processing relationships.

Today’s world is a complex interplay of demands from both internal and external sources. You don’t have to go it alone. I began as a Clinical Therapist 27 years ago helping people move through changes and challenges in their lives. During this time, I have also been a biology teacher at the secondary level. It is this combination of experiences, as a science educator, with a background in mental health, that has given me a unique perspective. It is this perspective that allows me to help people navigate through life’s journeys.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
