Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists in Buffalo, NY
I help people who feel trapped by anxiety, OCD, or trauma find relief and reconnect with a sense of peace and confidence.
For trauma and difficult past experiences, I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Progressive Counting (PC) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to help your brain and body reprocess painful memories. These approaches can ease emotional pain, calm the nervous system, and make space for healing and growth.

I strive to make it a priority to create a comfortable environment to explore stressors that may be related to anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, grief and loss, or other life adjustments.
I find value and importance of incorporating self-compassion into our work together. Often anxiety and depressive disorders, as well as life stressors can cause us to be our own worst enemy or think negatively about ourselves. Learning to care for ourselves while being kind can help immensely.

It is my passion and privilege to work with women who have experienced traumatic events. Whether stemming from childhood trauma, abuse, betrayal, or significant life changes, this pain often manifests as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties. Even with our best efforts to make changes, these obstacles can feel difficult to overcome. Healing isn’t always linear. Some days feel harder than others, overwhelming and uncertain. These moments are part of being human, and you don't have to navigate them alone.

I am passionate about this work, specifically supporting individuals in their recovery from an eating disorder as well as obsessive compulsive disorder.
Hello and welcome! I am so happy that you are here as I cannot imagine how overwhelming this process can be. Finding the right therapist is not a ‘one size fits all’ mindset. I believe that the therapeutic relationship takes time and space to develop. As a result, I meet each individual where they are at in order to foster that connection. My view on therapy continues to adapt in order to remain up to date with relevant challenges that individuals may face. Therapy should be unconditional and empathetic to ensure the individual feels heard and validated.

Looking for a therapist is awkward. You already decided to call a professional, and yet the process feels impersonal and stressful. Maybe anxiety flares when you try to dial the phone, or your depression convinces you it’s not worth the effort. Then the "what if’s" show-up. What if they judge me? What if I fall apart and can’t put myself back together? What if this doesn't help? These are valid concerns and finding a therapist who you connect with might seem impossible. Feeling comfortable, safe, and connected to a therapist is not only your right, it's good treatment and my first priority.

At the heart of On Living Psychotherapy is an invitation to explore what a meaningful life looks like, for you. It’s common to become separated from your own life, moving on autopilot, trying to accomplish what you believe you should be doing. You may find yourself comparing your life to others and feeling as though you’re not doing things well enough, without noticing how deeply incomparable your life is. Over time, this can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, from others, and from the sense of aliveness that makes life feel meaningful.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
