I have experience working with a wide range of issues, but many of my clients are typically men in their 20s and 30s that struggle with anxiety and are going through a significant life transition.
Do you struggle with feelings of anxiety that impact your day-to-day life, relationships, work, or overall ability to just get things done? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage all of the expectations that they have in their lives. It's overwhelming to look inward and assess the changes that we need to make or the standards that we want to set for ourselves. If you find yourself struggling with worrying thoughts, feelings of anxiety, or multicultural issues, you will benefit from my style of therapy that leads to greater insight and positive change.

I specialize in helping men navigate unique challenges, from identity and emotional expression to societal pressures and personal growth.
To fully experience and enjoy life, we must attune to the wisdom within. I provide a confidential, trauma-informed space to explore emotions and somatic sensations, fostering a more compassionate relationship with yourself and others. Mental pain often stems from childhood experiences, transgenerational inheritance, and cultural conditioning deeply embedded in the Western world. I approach healing with this awareness. I also support individuals in psychedelic/ketamine-assisted therapy, offering a safe space for processing and integration. Note: I do not prescribe medication but can connect clients with a licensed prescriber in NYS.

Feeling anxious all the time is such a crippling feeling and can feel like there is no escaping it. Just when one anxious thought starts to go away, another one shows up and takes its place. It can feel like an endless cycle of racing thoughts, worry, and fear about anything and everything. It’s hard to know when the anxiety will be over especially living in an anxiety-inducing world that is constantly changing which in turn leads to more anxiety. If this sounds like you, you're not alone!

I believe that people have an inherent capacity for growth, especially in our most challenging periods of life. One significant way that this growth can be discovered is through psychotherapy. Whether you feel stuck in your past, present, or anticipated future, therapy can not only build awareness, but also offer solutions to ease emotional strife, develop healthier behaviors, and build better connections with yourself and others.

I work with clients who are struggling with overcoming past trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship distress or work stress. Many times it can be easy to stuff feelings associated with any of these stressors, only to have these issues come back and be more intense. I like to assist clients with finding ways to process through their stressors, trauma, anxiety and depression, while learning healthy coping skills to manage stressors in the future so that you can feel more at peace and a sense of calm. With relationship distress I work with clients on effective communication and processing through emotions.

Note: I am transitioning to ketamine assisted psychedelic (KAP) and MDMA once that becomes available. I am a master therapist and trainer. I love exploring how people have become distorted from their true nature and lose touch with what matters most to them. The work is to help us all clear the distortions so we can return to who we are: awake, kind, free. I often practice using EMDR, Buddhist Psychology, spiritual practice, exploring the nature of satisfaction/dissatisfaction and the nature of self, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

A little on edge? Feeling empty? Afraid to trust? Things can feel overwhelming until they’re dissected and explained. Anxiety just wants a plan. Depression is just pointing to a hole or void in our life. Trauma just wants assurance that the traumatic thing won’t happen to us again. All of these are just smoke alarms put in place to keep us safe and whole. Everything we feel makes sense; we aren’t crazy and we aren’t lost causes. Areas Of Focus: Anxiety, depression, youth and family dynamics, finding meaning and purpose, and trauma and adjustment disorders. Catch me on “Fatal Attraction” S13E8! ... Tiktok: dimariobell

Why do you want to come to therapy? What are your goals? What are your needs? Why me as your therapist? All valid questions and only you have the answer. Wanting to change is good. Being teachable is better. I firmly believe that everyone wants, in one way or another, to improve themselves in some way. We are a smaller private practice and do not have a 100+ person caseload like most large agencies and clinics - we focus on YOU.

Counseling can be a vital experience for those with a sensitivity, depression, anxiety, or having stress, those wanting to adjust in some facet of life, or have complex problems to solve. If meaning and purpose, coping skills and practical solutions are sought, they will be found. The answers will deepen our life experience and quality of life. Common in our culture are isolation, loneliness, relationship issues, lack of meaning and purpose, depression and anxiety which can be successfully addressed with willingness and openness to examine them.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
