I have provided services to diverse population of people. A bulk of my experience lies with Children. I am well versed with Middle school age children. As a female, I love providing counsel and therapy to women about shared experiences on women's issues . I am also able to work with the elderly, minority communities, and men. I also believe that everyone is deserving of Affordable Mental Healthcare especially individuals who live in low socio-economic communities. It is proven that minorities in low socio-economic communities in particular, experience chronic stress regularly. Those individuals deserve all the benefits of Therapy.

I believe that a good relationship with my clients is a necessary precondition to good therapy. I balance compassion and acceptance with a firm, challenging stance. After all, we don't grow from sitting in our comfort zones! My areas of expertise include treating eating, weight, and body image issues, mood and anxiety disorders, and helping people through difficult life transitions. While women's issues are a specialty, I have worked with clients with a range of gender identifications and I aim to provide gender affirming care. My clients are diverse by age, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, race, and ethnicity.

Are you having having relationship problems or overwhelming stress? I am a psychologist and psychoanalyst with an interpersonal/humanistic approach who specializes in relationship problems, couples therapy, women's issues and gender identity concerns. In individual therapy, clients discover the causes of their distress and find ways to feel "real" and "alive" in the world. Self-defeating patterns of thoughts and behaviors are identified and re-evaluated. More realistic and helpful perceptions, attitudes and behaviors can then emerge. Couples therapy emphasizes respectful communication and listening techniques. "Hearing" one's partner as well as expressing one's own distress becomes important.

I specialize in working with couples, anxiety, depression, LGBTQ issues, grief/bereavement, and women's issues .
Since the age of eight, I have regularly attended counseling, and it saved me. Decades later, counseling has become my calling--my desire to share the techniques that help us cope with the forces in our lives we cannot control. As a natural advocate of mental, physical, and spiritual health, I also teach yoga regularly. I believe that we reach a state of peace, when we take our lives into our own hands. My mission is to help you build your individual strength, gain insight, and develop effective ways of coping with life and relationships.

I am a AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (CST). I will work with you wherever you are at in your life and customize my clinical techniques to meet your needs. I specialize in sex and sexuality, but offer therapy in many other areas. In addition, because a sex therapist such as myself is knowledgeable about alternative lifestyles, identities and gender expressions, some find that sessions with a sex therapist can be helpful in resolving issues unrelated to their sexuality. I earned my Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Hunter College in Manhattan. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and cocreator of Wise Sex Therapy Assoc.

At this time, unfortunately I am not taking new clients. I hope to have increased availability in the fall. I believe the most important aspect in therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist. I take a collaborative approach and have a warm, engaging style. Many people struggle because of traumas, losses, poor self-esteem, and difficulties with life transitions. We can work together to repair and heal old wounds, using a combination of approaches tailored to your needs.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
