Therapy is a journey that offers us an opportunity to gain perspective and aid in the facilitation of change. It takes courage to make this investment in one's self. With the therapeutic relationship, we can foster a better understanding of ourselves, create more fulfilling relationships with others and cope better with the difficulties of life changes. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, empathic and holistically focused. Utilizing a strengths based perspective incorporates varied treatment strategies; therefore, therapy is uniquely tailored to reflect an individual's intrinsic strengths and potential for self-actualization.

I aim to make sure you feel safe, supported, and heard in therapy. Change is possible, it might not happen overnight but it IS possible. I am experienced in the treatment of attentional, mood and
trauma
-related disorders.
We have an inbuilt propensity towards self-actualization and the job of the therapist is to help identify and remove obstacles, with the rest following from the innate tendency to grow. I use humanist and cognitive-behavioral frameworks to help individuals take action to reduce stress and pain in their lives. DBT and CBT approaches to treatment can help people develop mindfulness and interpersonal skills that support the ability to focus, manage stress, regulate emotions, and identify underlying beliefs that perpetuate problematic patterns of thinking and behaving.

Everything is unpredictable. The world, both at home and elsewhere might seem chaotic and when not chaotic, dull and repetitive. We can get stuck in ruts and not feel we are moving forward with our lives. You might already have a diagnosis of anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. Or you might just have a sense of unease or dismay at how your hard life is right now. Some also suffer from
trauma
or
PTSD
that compounds the misery. Anxiety alone can be distressing and debilitating. And worse, disheartening.

I specialize in
trauma
recovery, grief, loss, and spirituality. I have worked with survivors of interpersonal violence, sexual assault, suicide, and various forms of self-harm. I also work with individuals who want to explore issues related to identity, gender, and sexuality. I help cultivate an authentic, integrated, and empowered expression of self by way of connecting with denser emotions such as grief, fear, and despair. This work is grounded in belief through experience that we can heal, regenerate, and thrive. I have witnessed suffering alchemized into joy, desperation into hope, insecurity into confidence, doubt into trust.

My guiding principle as a therapist is deep listening without judgment (acknowledgement plus acceptance) so that people can feel the freedom to express themselves, explore their experiences and create authentic connection. I believe that listening is an essential tool in healing and feeling valued. My approach is
trauma
-informed and client-centered, with an anti-oppression lens. I am committed to the lifelong unlearning of colonial structures that are deeply rooted in mental health, and to holding space for others to unpack how societal and institutional structures have impacted their mental health and wellness.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
