I strive to cultivate an environment that is trauma -informed and mindful and affirming of each client's race, culture, sexuality, and gender identity.
Human beings are often walking the fine line between trying to do the best they can and recognizing they might need or want to do better - choosing to do the work to explore the latter path is an act of strength and bravery. In therapy, we will work together to develop a trusting and caring relationship to help you navigate this path. We will collaborate in identifying and applying your strengths and values to support you in working through your concerns and moving toward living as your most grounded and authentic self. I have experience working with both teens and adults and welcome both to my practice.

You're not good enough. This annoying, familiar voice keeps showing up. It's just one of the ways trauma has left a mark. Your anxiety often turns into irritability and you end up snapping at people which makes you angry at yourself. Now you'll be losing sleep over-analyzing this at night. The next day, you wake up tired and grumpy. When someone asks how you are, you fake a smile and answer "good." It's not like you can say "I was up most of the night replaying an unpleasant social interaction over and over in my head, again." It's exhausting fighting your own thoughts and feelings.

I believe the purpose of psychotherapy is to ease emotional and relationship difficulties and increase satisfaction in life. Clients come to therapy with diverse needs, but typically they are seeking help either to deal with immediate life crises or to address ongoing challenges. In my practice these have included issues of anxiety and depression; bereavement; effects of trauma ; parenting and relationship concerns; and varied behavior problems. I see both children and adults and have a subspecialty in couples counseling. For psychotherapeutic techniques to be successful they must be adapted to the client's unique needs and circumstances.

Trained in talk therapies, Trauma Release Exercises (TRE), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), hypnotherapy and other evidence-based treatments, I work with adults and teens struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma , self-esteem, and relationships issues.
Are you in 'Survival Mode?' Do you find yourself replaying memories that make you feel scared, anxious or uncomfortable in your body? PTSD , anxiety, phobias, and codependency in relationships can be manifestations of our past dictating our present experience. Fortunately, just as our body knows how to heal from a paper-cut, our brain knows how to heal from our past. Trauma -informed techniques allow us to keep the knowledge of the past while loosing any pain or negative beliefs associated with those memories.

I can help each of you to explore, in a safe, compassionate, and contained way, some of the wounds from the past that you may carry - from past generations, trauma , abuse, alcoholism, harmful relationships, past mistakes, and/or events and circumstances beyond your control.
Healing doesn’t happen in isolation but in connection. I care deeply about co-creating a safe, nurturing therapeutic space, one where you (individually or with your partner/family) can identify and divest yourself of the internalized narratives and patterns that no longer serve you. Our beliefs are shaped largely by the stories we have been told all our lives - by family, peers, culture, religion, and larger systems that we may not even be aware of. In partnership, we can examine what narratives you want to hold onto and which ones hold you back from living in alignment with the person/couple/family you want to be.

I use a combination of psychodynamic, trauma -focused and CBT-informed techniques to help clients build awareness of their interpersonal patterns, thoughts and behaviors, tap into strengths and identify new ways to approach communication, relationships, life and work.
Sometimes the most overwhelming step can be the first one: Finding a therapist who feels like a good fit for you. I aim to create a safe, warm environment for you to come and unpack the content of your life—your past, your current struggles, and your thoughts about how to design the future you want for yourself. With the freedom to speak candidly about issues that are causing you distress comes the power to start making change.

I am an EMDR therapist with specialized trainings in Internal Family Systems/parts work, psychedelic integration and intergenerational trauma .
I specialize in working with adults with overwhelmed nervous systems, which includes all of us facing climate catastrophe and rising fascism. I use a trauma -informed and anti-oppressive framework that sees mental health not as an individual problem, but one rooted in systemic and structural problems. I use historical and material conditions as a context to understand ways systems of oppression are replicated in therapy despite intent, including ways adaptive responses to a hostile social environment are labeled “disordered.”

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
