Hello! My name is Alex (they/them). I am a helper and trained counselor welcoming clients who have specifically been ostracized or misunderstood by the mental health industrial complex. Currently, institutional services geared towards helping are explicitly gate kept by ableist perspectives, carceral state interventions, financial inaccessibility, treatment stigma, and other barriers rooted in the shameful, foundational practices of white supremacy and western culture. My work is specifically political, and intended to help clients cultivate a more liberated life. I curate space for healing as well as dream building.

Self-compassion is a great buzzword, but it's easier said than done. Sometimes you have to avoid or fight feelings and parts of yourself. Maybe you feel overwhelmed, worn out or conflicted. Maybe you are not satisfied with your core relationships. This could be because parts of you are stuck in past experiences and those parts are using the tools they have (like avoidance, self-criticism, anxiety...) to protect you from more pain, even though these tools don't always serve you now. Together, we can welcome and get to know each part of you slowly and safely, and introduce new tools for coping and making change.

You and your partner have decided to give an open relationship a shot. Congratulations. And, oh shit! Old ways of communicating with each other aren’t working. You’re anxious and suddenly suck at supporting each other. You used to be a team. Now conflicts feel impossible to resolve. Your sex life has deteriorated, adding to growing resentments. Constantly embroiled in arguments over misunderstandings, the friction is tearing your relationship apart. You worry that you’re not going to make it as a couple. Jealousy, inadequacy and guilt have taken over. The pain this is causing your partner is too much bear.

Showing up for yourself is incredibly important, however prioritizing your own needs is often easier said than done. Through the therapeutic process, together we can navigate life transitions, explore difficult emotions, resolve conflicts, build on strengths, enhance coping skills, increase self-satisfaction, and gain new insights.

You’ve been pushing through, holding it together, smiling when you don’t feel like it. Inside? You might be anxious, exhausted, disconnected, or quietly wondering, is this it? Whether you're a teen, adult, or somewhere in between, you're craving more than survival mode. You want space to breathe, feel, and remember who you are without needing to fix everything overnight.

Life can feel overwhelming, especially when you’ve lost connection with yourself and the things that once brought you joy. If you feel stuck in patterns of dissatisfaction, uncertainty, or emotional struggle, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

I want to work with you in clarifying your needs, goals, and dreams, and then sharing them with others. If you're dealing with change and trying to identify what that means for you, and then those around you, I'd like to support and challenge you on ways to do that that serve you.

You may be entering a new stage of life together, rebuilding after a breakdown in trust, exploring non-monogamy, trying to stop ending up at the same impasse time and time again, or seeking to further elevate your existing connection. I specialize in queer, interracial and non-monogamous couples and aim to foster deeper connection through building self-awareness, communication skills and intentionality.
There are subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) ways we may tend to sabotage our relationships. These behaviors are often unconscious, and can sneakily serve to “protect” us from intimacy.

Being a person is hard. The pain and difficulty of life just pile up, obscuring the joy and connectivity we might once have felt. Maybe it’s been so long since we were excited about life that we’ve forgotten what it's like to wake up curious and engaged with the mystery of our own existence. But let’s be honest: there’s a lot of pain and suffering in this world. And so much of it is beyond our ability to control. Here’s the good news: you and me and everyone we know – we’re not the first to feel like this. And there are ways to feel better. My goal is simple: to share with you what was once shared with me. Therapy that works.
