Are you caught in a stressful cycle of conflict in your relationship? Does it feel as if you and your loved one(s) are repeating the same pattern? Let's work together to change this. I can help you to discover how unspoken communication, past experiences, and beliefs, may be influencing your relationship. We will work together to understand these patterns, and how they aren't serving you. Together, we can develop more effective communication skills and replace the patterns which are holding you back. I believe that therapy should be collaborative, empowering, and solution focused.

I offer relational, trauma-informed psychotherapy to adults, couples, and small groups. My approach is warm and tailored to each client; I believe everyone can benefit from support in tending to the more difficult, uncertain, and worry-inducing aspects of their lives. I am currently accepting new individual telehealth clients in Maryland. I have two open spots and accept Cigna insurance. Without insurance, clients pay an out-of-pocket fee of $130/session. I also have limited in-person availability in NYC for individuals and couples. I work with NY clients to submit claims to apply their OON benefits.

I deeply value working within an anti-oppression based framework. In addition to working with clients who identify as TGNC and/or queer, I specialize in working with folks who struggle with anxiety and depression and who are in recovery from substance use. I use a collaborative, individualized approach that honors you and your unique goals.

Showing up for yourself is incredibly important, however prioritizing your own needs is often easier said than done. It can be especially challenging if you already feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, and/or lost. Through the therapeutic process, together we can navigate life transitions, explore difficult emotions, resolve conflicts, build on strengths, enhance coping skills, increase self-satisfaction, and gain new insights.

The discomfort and pain we experience is often systemic, which is why I believe in creating an environment that feels safe and free from traditional power structures. I do not demonize or criminalize suicidality and my resources for crisis intervention are all explicitly anti-cop. The client is the expert on their own needs and that sometimes we have to work outside the traditional mental healthcare system to affect change. My approach is always trauma-informed. I also provide relationship therapy for couples and polycules, with an emphasis on relationship anarchy and non-traditional dynamics.

Hello! My name is Alex (they/them). I am a helper and trained counselor welcoming clients who have specifically been ostracized or misunderstood by the mental health industrial complex. Currently, institutional services geared towards helping are explicitly gate kept by ableist perspectives, carceral state interventions, financial inaccessibility, treatment stigma, and other barriers rooted in the shameful, foundational practices of white supremacy and western culture. My work is specifically political, and intended to help clients cultivate a more liberated life. I curate space for healing as well as dream building.

Currently accepting individuals for psychodynamically informed, attachment-oriented, weekly therapy or couples for weekly EFT-based couples therapy (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy). EFT-based couples therapy seeks to help couples identify the interactional patterns that keep couples disconnected. In understanding these patterns, we work to help partners learn and understand their habitual protective behaviors, their partner's protective behaviors, and to practice NEW ways of responding to one's self and one's partner.

Studies consistently show that the most important part of effective therapy is a strong relationship between therapist and client. When you come to see me, establishing a supportive bond where you feel safe enough to be yourself and to take risks is my first priority. Together we will explore how different parts of you interact with one another, noticing and appreciating your resiliency, as well as the areas of pain and hurt. We will work together to create more internal harmony, improving relationships with others by starting with your relationship with yourself.

Are you longing to feel more at home in yourself and in your relationships? Do you find yourself going through the motions — managing responsibilities, meeting demands — yet sensing that something essential is missing? Maybe joy feels distant, connection feels effortful, or you can't quite put your finger on why life feels harder than it should. You don't have to keep searching for answers alone. As a trained art therapist, I offer both art therapy and talk therapy, meeting you where you are and tailoring our work to what feels right for you.

I work with clients suffering from depression, anxiety, gender dysphoria, and life transitions.
I work within a Psychodymanic framework while adapting to the client's needs. I tend to leave my sessions very open where you actually get to guide the session and take me where you want to go. Having a space where you can just be your authentic self without anyone in the room judging you can be liberating, and that is the type of therapy I want to create.

I have five years of training in therapy with LGBTQ clients, folks living with HIV, and gender affirming care through my work at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Callen-Lorde Community Health Center.
I provide trauma-informed therapy for queer, POC, cross-cultural, and non-monogamous couples and partners to support intimacy through self-awareness and intentionality. You may be entering a new stage together, rebuilding after a rupture in trust, exploring non-monogamy, or seeking to deepen a strong connection. Our closest connections can reveal subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) ways we tend to sabotage our relationships. These behaviors are often unconscious and can quietly serve to "protect" us from intimacy. As counterintuitive as this may sound, closeness is very vulnerable, and we do not always feel comfortable with this.

Hi, I’m James. I’m currently accepting new Aetna, United Heathcare, Quest, and Optum clients in NY. I work with adult individuals, couples, and multi-person relationships. Together we can navigate trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship struggles, dissociation, and existing in the world we live in. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, mental wellness is deeply personal. What works for one person may not work for another.

In today's world -- and particularly for those of us who hold marginalized identities -- having compassion for our hearts, minds, and bodies is increasingly difficult. Many of us struggle with feeling "not __ enough," and learn to mold or hide parts of ourselves to make it through the day. I believe that everyone deserves to show up to life (and therapy) in their entirety, without need for explanation or justification.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
