My clinical experience includes work with trauma, substance use, and complex behavioral patterns across community and private practice settings.
I work with high performing men who are used to handling pressure but starting to slip behind the scenes. A lot of the men I work with are not used to asking for help. They are used to figuring things out on their own, until the usual ways of coping stop working. This often shows up as increased stress, drinking too much, doom scrolling, or conflict at home. They might appear professional and capable, but internally there is frustration, distance, or a loss of control. I help clients understand what is driving these patterns and build better ways to manage stress, relationships, and day-to-day pressure.

Do you carry a deep ache that feels hard to name? Or move through the world with a heaviness you can’t explain? Trauma doesn’t always come with a clear storyline—but its effects are real. It can leave you feeling disconnected, anxious, stuck in shame, or unsure who you are anymore. It can disrupt relationships, sexuality, sleep, and even your sense of time. You may have tried therapy before and wondered if real relief is even possible. I believe it is.

Every life has a history of twist and turns, with episodes of successes, failures, challenges, decisions, changes and losses. We often inhabit patterns that once helped us to survive, yet now hinder us in recognizing or becoming who we truly are. These patterns can affect a variety of life issues, such as goal attainment, difficulties in relationships, and our ability to communicate, leaving us feeling frustrated, confused, or stuck.

My years working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams shape a whole-person approach, and inform how stress, identity, health and substance use may be connected.
Many people I work with are thoughtful, capable, and used to managing things on their own. At some point they begin to question their relationship with drinking, drugs or other habits, especially after trying to cut back and finding it's harder than expected.
Over time these patterns can begin taking up more effort than is comfortable, creating some concern even if everything appears okay from the outside. Part of you may want to change, while another part isn’t sure what that change would look like or where to even begin. This uncertainty is normal and part of the process.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
