I draw from a variety of principles including AEDP, Attachment theory, psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, inner child work, and narrative therapy.
As we make our way through life, we are often forced to give up parts of ourselves in order to survive and belong. Many of our defenses, developed early on, may hinder our wholeness as adults while contributing to a sense of “stuckness.” I believe that we are innately wired for healing, and that provided with a safe environment our healing capacity is activated as we listen to, feel, and process our core emotions. Emotions carry our stories, and when not processed properly can lodge themselves in our bodies and manifest in various unhealthy ways.

I am a holistic, affirming therapist who sees many mental health challenges as survival strategies for a sick society rather than symptoms of a sick individual. As a psychodynamic therapist, I'll listen closely to understand your background first and then move to unpacking patterns.
I work with individual adults and couples; I am happy to offer in person sessions in Park Slope as well as virtual sessions in New York State. I specialize in treating people-pleasing and codependent patterns in relationships. You may have needed people-pleasing at a time in your life, but find it is no longer working now. People struggling with codependency typically have a history of trauma, abuse, neglect or other painful experiences. Even if no longer in those situations, you may experience deep loneliness from hiding yourself, resentment, physical aches and pains, substance use or perfectionism.

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a psychodynamic approach, mindfulness and support of the mind-body connection, I tailor treatment to meet your individual needs.
You want to transform and change but no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to attain your goals. This can leave you feeling stuck, tired and vulnerable. I help motivated young women, professionals and therapists go from feeling anxious, caught in a life stage, wanting to find meaningful relationships, accelerate at work and improve self-esteem, to living an empowered life where there is a roadmap for change. We work together to reduce anxiety, improve relationships, establish an empowered sense of self and develop confidence to match. I work with those who are motivated to transform their lives with a clearer vision and path.

My integrative, individually-tailored approach involves psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
Life can sometimes feel challenging, overwhelming, and lonely - but it doesn’t have to be that way. You deserve to experience happiness and connection. Hurdles don’t have to define you or limit your potential to enjoy a fulfilling life and healthy relationships. Old patterns can be broken, making room for you to replace sadness and fear with joy and confidence.

I am trained in both psychodynamic /relational, as well as CBT approaches, and am highly adaptive to your changing needs and goals.
Adolescents, young adults and adults join me for therapy for a wide variety of specific reasons, though often related to stressors or transitions that feel overwhelming, or due to feeling stagnant/stuck and unable to attain their goals. Life situations and circumstances that challenge you are often the most rewarding and formative; yet adapting and managing your thoughts, feelings and behaviors in collaboration with a seasoned therapist can often make the process more manageable and the outcomes more productive and in alignment with your values.

Sessions may include traditional psychodynamic techniques with a focus on the unconscious and childhood, somatic methods such as mindfulness and meditation, and parts work based on Internal Family Systems.
Some people come to therapy knowing exactly what they want to work on. Others have a more vague sense that something in their lives is wrong. Both motivations can be an incredible opportunity to learn more about oneself and figure out how to build a more authentic and fulfilling life. I work with clients who may experience anxiety, depression, or the effects of trauma. I also assist clients in identifying and breaking outside of societal norms to figure out their true personal and interpersonal needs. With couples, I use a variety of methods to help build stronger relationships.

I have been trained in several evidence based therapeutic modalities including: Psychodynamic , CBT, ACT, and MBT(Mentalization Based Treatment), which all inform the way in which I approach treatment with clients.
I have been practicing since 2006 and I have worked with a wide range of issues and work best with people who are looking for emotional/behavioral change and/or work on their core attachment issues. My client base typically consists of clients struggling with Borderline Personality/Narcissistic Personality disorders, Trauma/PTSD/CPTSD, Gender/sexuality, ENM/Poly, Kink/BDSM, and/or LGBTQIA+ folx. I am a therapist who pushes their clients to work on their issues so I generally work well with clients who are ready to work on the issues they are struggling with.

My graduate training is in clinical social work and I completed four years of additional psychodynamic training.
No one seeks therapy because they feel their life is going well. However, seeking therapy is a sign that things are actually going right! Deeply, intimately, and passionately knowing yourself is the key to happiness and I want to help you achieve that. Knowledge is power and with that power you can make decisions to change. You can achieve acess to parts of yourself that can make you feel alive and in love with life. I am excited to help you do that.

My style is eclectic, incorporating psychodynamic psychotherapy and evidence-based practices.
Life can be overwhelming. Finding a therapist shouldn't add to that stress. Each one of us deserves access to a safe, judgement-free space. As a therapist, I fiercely defend that space for my clients, and I hope to meet you there with warmth, authenticity, and humor. Having served the diverse population of this city in medical, educational, and non-profit settings, I am sensitive to the complex New York experience while acknowledging that your journey is unique. I offer a client-centered, trauma-informed, multicultural approach for adults struggling with stress, anxiety, or depression.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
