My therapeutic perspective is shaped by training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Liberation Health, Social Group Work, and other modalities, as well as my work in community mental health and substance use treatment.
In therapy, I help clients slow down and ground themselves in the present moment. By tuning in, we begin to notice patterns that may have been with us for years—sometimes decades. Together, we explore why well-intentioned parts of ourselves can lead us down familiar paths of disconnection, judgment, and fear. Through this process, we build new, more compassionate relationships with those parts. This kind of deep inner work can be truly transformative, allowing us to rediscover what it feels like to be free in heart, mind, and body.

My work is grounded in evidence-based methodologies like Dance/Movement Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
As a somatic psychotherapist, I integrate the mind, body, and soul fostering emotional, cognitive, physical, & social integration. I've observed the transformative impact of connecting to the body: releasing emotional blockages, tapping into its wisdom, understanding behavior patterns, and transforming stuck emotions into growth. I recognize the challenges of overwhelming environments, leading to reactive and dysregulated states. Despite intellectual self-awareness, there might be a gap in emotionally embodying authentic selves. This cycle can result in disconnection from self and others.

I have found that the following treatments are extremely effective: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoanalytic Therapy, Reality Therapy, Mindulness, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy (Tell me YOUR story) and how we can navigate your life difficulties.
I believe that everyone needs an objective resource in their life. Someone who can take a look at their current life circumstances, or even childhood experiences in order to determine what trajectory they are on. Therapy is a collaborative effort and the therapist and client tackle the difficult situations that the client has faced, and together form a new path. There is no hierarchy in therapy, I prefer to be called Jennifer rather than Dr. or Ms. Guinta. We are all on an even playing field. I am just here to show you alternate perspectives regarding your problem. I am reality based, I do not just "yes you", I challenge you.

He blends psychodynamic, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral, and internal family systems.
I approach every client individually, with less focus on diagnosis, and much more on relational connection. Clients can expect a warm and disarming approach to exploring themselves. I very much embrace the metaphor of the client as the pilot and the therapist as the navigator. As trust and safety are established, that is when I will utilize different skills.

My practice is based in trauma theory, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing.
It takes significant strength to take the first step in initiating a connection with a therapist. I view all clients as experts of their own experience and I will follow your lead in establishing a treatment plan that will bring you closer to your personal goals. My experience as a trauma therapist includes 10 years of providing supportive services to survivors of crime and interpersonal abuse, as well as individuals impacted by depression and/or anxiety. I have 5 years of experience providing clinical supervision to other clinicians including rising social workers and seasoned trauma-focused providers.

I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, psychodynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness and breathing exercises, and others.
We all experience things that can be difficult to talk about - trauma, loss, self-doubt, substance use, or shame - things that have happened to us and/or things that we don’t like about ourselves. I specialize in approaching those things that can be hard to talk about. My goal as a therapist is to offer a non-judgemental and safe space to explore those areas of your life, so that you can feel less alone and find strategies to move forward. We will recognize and build on the strengths that you already have, while developing new strategies to help you move forward.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
