I also work with couples to improve communication, and overcome obstacles that are in the way of moving ahead.
Living our best life is a goal many people desire. Without the proper tools and guidance It may be challenging to get there. We can often feel stuck or unsure of how to break patterns, or negative thought cycles. We may fear confrontation, or perhaps our anger and ego gets in our way. I am here to listen and help. I am easy to talk with and make a comfortable space for you to be able to open up and be vulnerable. Being honest with ourselves is what ultimately makes us grow into the person we want to be.

With couples, I am certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which focuses on understanding the negative cycle that has become a couple's enemy and the pain each person experiences to create a stronger bond.
These days, moving through life can feel like a performance; an enduring struggle to prove that things are not only okay, but seemingly perfect. This can feel ... exhausting. I strive to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment in which you feel comfortable putting that performance aside. I believe that we begin to heal through relationships. My hope, for our therapeutic relationship, is that you feel safe to be honest, authentic, and vulnerable about whatever your life and/or relationship looks like right now, while together, we reflect on what may have led you here.

I work alongside individuals and couples to support them in achieving their goals.
Many of us develop patterns of behavior and explanatory narratives in response to life's demands. Over time, this form of adaptation can lead to a false sense of self. Sooner or later, though often around midlife, our typical ways of coping and sublimation no longer work, and we are called to reconnect with our true selves. Therapy can support this process of uncovering and freeing ourselves from maladaptive patterns.

I frequently hear the expression of loneliness, emptiness and feeling unfulfilled in people's lives and the sadness, disappointment and anger over relationships with themselves, partners, family and friends that fail to satisfy those needs.
I work with individuals, couples and families confronting issues of depression, anxiety, stress, relationship problems, loss, parenting issues, aging, trauma and alcohol/substance use. Family work is especially helpful in treating alcohol/substance use by learning how to cope with and assist loved ones confronting this issue.

While I have worked with diverse clientele, I am especially interested in working with couples who are struggling with issues of ethnic/cultural differences, income inequities, and equality.
I know that making the decision to seek a therapist is often a difficult one so I make sure that you have a safe, comforting, and professional place to discuss intimate details of your life with a trained therapist. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, rather I see it as collaborative; you and I will work together to help you achieve more peace and happiness in your life.

My primary goal as a therapist is to facilitate meaningful communication between couples and families - one that promotes introspection and generates insight into people's relationships.
In addition to couples and families, I work with individuals. Individual therapy is focused on addressing clients' personal and professional impasses. In doing so, they find ways to experience greater satisfaction and happiness with themselves and their relationships.

I love working with couples, families, and individuals who want to learn how to advocate for and express their needs, improve their relationships, reduce anxiety and stress, and maintain accountability.
My work is affirming and strength-based, combining theory and creativity to meet clients where they are. I like challenging my clients and giving them space to recognize their capabilities, even when it's hard.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
