Finding the space to simply be can be hard, especially when you feel you don’t fully belong, whether that is culturally, socially, or politically. We all carry stories: some we choose, others inherited, many shaping our lives without us realizing. When quick fixes stop working, therapy can become a space to slow down and gently make sense of what you’ve been holding. I work alongside people at crossroads, entering relationships, leaving them, or navigating the uncertain in-between, creating room to explore what matters, reconnect with your voice, and move toward choices that feel more grounded, compassionate, and truly your own.

My approach to therapy - A relationship built on trust and empathy is key to healing. I believe in providing a person-centered and non-judgmental therapeutic atmosphere that starts with building rapport. Many parts of our identity contribute to our perceptions and we’ll work together to identify those so you can have a personalized treatment. I believe in a culturally sensitive approach to both assessment and treatment is important.

I am a mental health counselor committed to creating a safe, understanding space. I focus on identifying my clients’ strengths and challenges, using CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy to help them reach their goals. I’ve learned that building sustainable support systems outside therapy is key to long-term success. My past work with homeless and SPMI populations shaped my commitment to standing as an ally for refugee, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ communities.

As a somatic psychotherapist, I integrate the mind, body, and soul fostering emotional, cognitive, physical, & social integration. I've observed the transformative impact of connecting to the body: releasing emotional blockages, tapping into its wisdom, understanding behavior patterns, and transforming stuck emotions into growth. I recognize the challenges of overwhelming environments, leading to reactive and dysregulated states. Despite intellectual self-awareness, there might be a gap in emotionally embodying authentic selves. This cycle can result in disconnection from self and others.

For the last 10 years, I have worked as a therapist to children, adolescents, and young adults. My therapeutic process begins with understanding you. Together, we’ll assess your needs, goals, and areas of growth. For children, my focus is in creating a safe and supportive space to explore developmental needs through art, play, and games. For adolescents and young adults, we'll explore attachment styles, core beliefs, and patterns that may create barriers to self-awareness and self-compassion.

With today's societal norms and stigmas, so many of us are hurt, misunderstood, rejected, outcasted, and isolated to the point that we often become hesitant to seek out help. Over 12 years of clinical experience and treating hundreds of diverse patients, I have learned as human beings we all want the same thing: to be seen, heard, supported, accepted, connected, appreciated, and loved. So here I am; ready, willing, and committed to breaking through barriers with you - by offering a listening ear for your story and a safe space where we can explore, freely and authentically, without bias and without judgment.

Wherever you are in your life’s journey, you don’t have to go through it alone. It can be challenging to understand why we are going through a difficulty in our life, but more importantly, it can be difficult to identify our own needs during these times. As a trained Art Therapist, I utilize talk therapy along with creative self-expression. I work from an intersectional and social justice framework, and as a female therapist of color I am committed to validating personal experiences and intersections of identity including race, ethnicity, and gender.

As a South Asian therapist in NYC, I understand the importance of cultural diversity and intersecting identities. Those who gravitate towards working with me tend to set high standards for themselves, and are typically from culturally and professionally diverse backgrounds. Often, we do the needful of everyday life while constantly doubting ourselves. I help people overcome internal conflicts, self-sabotage, and unhealthy relationships with others in their lives. It might be tempting to put yourself on the back burner and attend to others, but you also deserve a safe space to process and be heard without fear of judgment.

Therapy sessions with me look a lot like a conversation. I believe that you ultimately know yourself, and I am here to be a guiding source and facilitator within the room. Depending on your needs, I can provide resources to coping mechanisms, practices and tools to take outside of our sessions. I can also be someone who listens without judgment. Therapy can be nerve racking, so I am open to listening and changing things up depending on how you grow and what you need. I love to learn and am always trying to create a positive therapy experience for you.

I will help you grow through empowerment, self-exploration, and building on your inner strengths. I'm a licensed clinical social worker in NY/NJ and a first-generation Muslim Arab woman, born and raised in New York City.
I work with adults navigating a range of life stressors, but many of my clients are Muslim women who’ve never felt truly heard, nurtured, or emotionally affirmed especially in childhood. Some have never been in a relationship, or are unsure how to move toward intimacy without shame, fear, or self-doubt.

Muslim Therapists
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
A culturally sensitive therapist will be respectful of faith, race, sexual orientation, gender, age, disabilities, or anything that is relevant to an individual’s reasons for seeking therapy. This mental health practitioner will therefore be able to recognize the role of faith in a client’s life, and they can appreciate the cultural values and beliefs of others. Cultural sensitivity on the part of the therapist may enhance the possibility of a strong therapeutic bond, even if the clinician does not have an extensive understanding of a client’s background before therapy begins.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Muslim clients?
It is best to ask directly whether a therapist has worked with Muslim clients, and if so, the extent to which cultural or religious principles factored into their work together. You can also ask whether a therapist who is familiar with Islamic practices, values, and beliefs incorporates them into their professional work, and if so, how. If the therapist does not have a sufficient knowledge base, they may well know and can refer you to someone who has such experience.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?
It is not necessary for a therapist to share one’s exact religious background for therapy to be successful. A qualified and culturally sensitive therapist will appreciate diversity within the Muslim community as well as diversity overall, and will have a sense of how religious and cultural issues can contribute to mental health. In addition, a good therapist would be willing to learn from their clients.

How do I recognize an effective Muslim therapist?
Like all therapists, a Muslim therapist who is effective will have the requisite training and expertise in evidence-based techniques, as well as the ability to connect with you on a personal level. An effective Muslim therapist may also demonstrate a clear understanding of your cultural background and faith. A therapist with such cultural sensitivity will set the stage for a strong therapeutic alliance.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of the Muslim faith?
The directory of Muslim therapists includes mental health providers who have shared their cultural background in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist with a similar background. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. When the number of therapists identified as Muslim is limited, the directory will also show therapists with extensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
