I've completed formal training in CBT, DBT,
Emotionally Focused
Therapy, and grief counseling, and have experience working with clients in the LGBTQ, alt sex, and poly/ENM communities.
Life transitions can often cause us to feel overwhelmed. While people close to us may be supportive, we may not always feel able to share with them our doubts and discomfort. Having an empathic therapist who can objectively help us navigate the journey is invaluable. My work with clients who have struggled with depression and anxiety, survived trauma or grief, or experience the world as LGBTQ+ identified people is strengths-based, person-centered, and results-oriented.

Three theories influence me: Imago Therapy teaches the communication rules that enable successful talking about inner issues;
Emotionally Focused
Therapy acknowledges the deep needs we still have for attachment and safety that we had as little children: and John Gottman's couples research showing us scientific proof of what works.
My specialty is short term Couples Therapy. If we want to feel safe in working out our difficulties, we have to learn some communication techniques that work. The first goal in therapy therefore, is to begin to talk to each other in a way so that even if we're not necessarily agreed with, its a relief to finally be heard and understood. Working out solutions can proceed from there, but only when its safe enough to be open and honest. Learning and using these techniques is a tremendous growth experience both individually and as a couple. Results can be seen almost immediately and consolidated in 4-6 sessions.

After completing my Master degree, I received post-graduate training for
Emotionally Focused
Therapy, the Stephen Mitchell Relational Study Center, The Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity, and the Gottman Institute.
When my clients first meet me, their lives often feel split between, much outward success and inner anxiety and pain, These conflicting realities can further impact a negative spiral into an isolative dark place . Together, we will explore the experiences and relationships that have created and impacted the person you are today. My orientation towards psychotherapy is psychodynamic and relational. Collaboratively processing complex attachment and relationships, I will be with you, supporting you, every step of the way.

Working with couples over the last decade, I’ve developed a unique approach called “Mindful Communication.” It combines the most powerful communication tools of Imago,
EFT
, Gestalt, and a technique called Circling. In our first few sessions, I take you through the top ten blocks to intimacy I created for you to spot where you’re stuck. Then we review the Ground Rules - 10 dos and don’ts in your conversations going forward so you get on the same page about what’s acceptable and what’s not in how you talk to each other. Once we have this solid foundation, I coach you through real time conversations to make you expert communicators.

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,
Emotionally Focused
Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy, and Mindfulness, I will help you navigate the obstacles that you may stumble upon.
As humans, we all have an innate need for personal growth. As I see it, many of us live with a feeling that we have either been standing in one place for too long, or our lives around us are changing at a pace that we cannot control. In either event, it's common to feel overwhelmed, scared, anxious or depressed. However, these life events and circumstances can be amazing opportunities for growth.

I'm trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and emotionally-focused therapy (
EFT

Albert Einstein said, "A problem cannot be solved by the mind that created it." Therapy gives us a safe relationship where we can explore our inner world and consider taking new risks in our outer one. To my mind, therapy is the process of talking things over with someone and, together, giving meaning and hope to pain and confusion. I endeavor to bring respect and curiosity to our conversation. I believe that we each have the wisdom to solve our problems, but our strengths get blocked when we experience trauma, depression, or overwhelming anxiety. In our work together, I aim to help you reconnect with your innate ability to thrive.

JUNE 2022: Currently accepting individuals for psychodynamically informed, attachment-oriented, weekly therapy or couples for weekly
EFT
-based couples therapy (
Emotionally Focused
Couples Therapy).
EFT
-based couples therapy seeks to help couples identify the interactional patterns that keep couples disconnected. In understanding these patterns, we work to help partners learn and understand their habitual protective behaviors, their partner's protective behaviors, and to practice NEW ways of responding to one's self and one's partner.

The decision to start therapy is a very personal and courageous one. Therapy is a process of change, empowerment, and self-growth. I have worked with people from all age groups, ranging from children to older adults. I have a particular interest in the psychological adjustments of parenthood. It is through the struggles in life where we emerge stronger and more compassionate people.

I particularly enjoy working with Couples, using Gottman's methodology and Emotional Focused Therapy (
EFT
), which bring great results and help couples improve their communication skills, resolve issues, but most importantly repair their relationship and love again.
Experienced, compassionate, and empathetic, are words that my clients use to describe me as their therapist. Since 2009, I have helped thousands of my clients and created several centers for our South Brooklyn Community to receive help and provide excellence of psychological care. As a healer in my profession, I guide, and help clients heal/repair their lives each day. My clients appreciate my sincerity, being non-judgmental, having a sense of humor, compassion, analytical skills, and effectiveness of therapeutic techniques, which I continue to hone as a trained therapist. Rothschild Counseling Centers provide top notch care.

I am an advanced
emotionally focused
therapist (
EFT
) for couples.
I keep an open mind, I am flexible and I am a good listener. I like to take all theories into account and apply them to one particular person. I do not believe in formulas, each individual is unique and deserves a unique understanding.
I also like to have a plan of action that I discuss with my client in the beginning of treatment. Clients have told me that they have gained better understanding of their dynamics and developed stronger sense of self after treatment.

Do you notice patterns of behavior that you’d like to explore further? Feel dissatisfied with the way things are currently in your life? By drawing from interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral (ie. CBT and ACT), and psychodynamic modalities, I empower clients to gain insight, define goals, and develop skills/tools to live meaningful lives consistent with their values. I see psychotherapy as an interactive process that can promote insight, create positive change, and foster growth. I also bring this perspective into my work with couples and families. I can provide couples/ family psychotherapy as well as discernment counseling.

I am a seasoned couples therapist who is trained in
Emotionally Focused
Therapy (
EFT
) and Imago Therapy.
Therapy is the start of a rewarding and challenging intimate relationship with a complete stranger (me!). We will start by working to understand your current concerns as it relates to your history and family of origin. Then we work to uncover and explore patterns of thinking and behaviors, and identify ways to tolerate or change difficult emotions, while strengthening coping skills. I utilize different modalities including psychodynamics, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Complicated Grief, and positive and attachment-based lenses to support people going through anxiety, life transitions, grief, and relationship challenges.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
