Showing up for yourself is incredibly important, however prioritizing your own needs is often easier said than done. It can be especially challenging if you already feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, and/or lost. Through the therapeutic process, together we can navigate life transitions, explore difficult emotions, resolve conflicts, build on strengths, enhance coping skills, increase self-satisfaction, and gain new insights.

Welcome. I integrate a somatic, mindfulness-based and experiential approach to psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I enjoy working with artists, sensitive people, and those with complex trauma, grief, loneliness, anxiety, or shame. We will do more than just analyze. At a careful pace, we will attune with curiosity to the unconscious material that the body and mind holds, learning to listen, emote, and be with rather than fix. We will be available to what arises in the therapeutic relationship and how it evokes what you came to want and fear. I invite you to begin this practice of opening.

Hello and welcome to my profile.
By now I would assume that you've read several profiles on the "Psychology Today" site and by this point they are probably all sounding astonishingly similar. That's got to be frustrating.
I hope that the following information concerning my practice doesn't have the same effect.
Let me be brief: I work with a multitude of issues and problems that relate to: couples, anxiety, depression and anger management. I also work with addictions including eating disorders. My approach can help you work through unconscious conflict (repeating patterns again and again without understanding why) as well as compulsive behaviors such as drinking, thought ruminating and habitual behaviors that are difficult to control.I can help you 'evolve' out of your particular problem. I am supportive and reality based while I can always find humor in the worst and the best of times. Together we can turn this all around and get you to where you want to be.

You may look capable and successful on the outside, yet internally feel constantly on edge. Your mind stays alert and your body rarely feels fully relaxed, even after a full night of sleep. In relationships, closeness can feel comforting one moment and confusing or draining the next. You may find yourself overthinking interactions, becoming highly attuned to others’ emotions, or shutting down when feelings become too intense. Over time this stress can show up physically through fatigue, brain fog, chronic pain, digestive issues, or autoimmune flares. You want to feel calmer, more grounded and able to connect without losing yourself.

Hi! I'm Neli Betancourt-Rodriguez. I'm a Christian bilingual (Spanish/English) licensed trauma therapist in New York and Florida. Whatever brought you here, I'm so glad you're here. Your story deserves to be heard, uncovered, and transformed into purpose. Your life matters. My hope is to walk alongside you in the aftermath of what can feel like the weight of the world. Sometimes, that aftermath looks like learning to trust again after abuse, or to feel joy after years of depression and sadness, or to unlearn patterns that no longer serve you. It may be hard to believe freedom is accessible. But here, I know it's possible. . .

My ideal client is someone who is deeply committed to growth, even if they aren’t yet sure what that path looks like. They may be an adoptive parent navigating the emotional rollercoaster of raising a child with a trauma history, or a teen trying to make sense of who they are in a world that often feels overwhelming. They might be an older adult struggling with loneliness, grief, or identity in the later stages of life. Regardless of age or background, what unites my ideal clients is a desire for healing, clarity, and a life that feels more manageable and aligned with who they are.

I work with adults whose past experiences are interfering with their ability to feel grounded, safe, or connected in the present. You may have endured emotional, physical, or sexual abuse in childhood or adulthood. You might be unsure whether what you went through was abuse, but you struggle with chronic self-doubt, shame, emotional overwhelm, or persistent relationship difficulties. My work is primarily rooted in trauma treatment, where I help clients explore the ways their past experiences shaped their core beliefs—their schemas about who they are, how others relate to them, and how safe or dangerous the world feels.

As a bilingual therapist, I work to bring cultural competency and years of experience to our space. Are you an international college/grad student or an expat? Do you have unresolved trauma that still impacts how you navigate the world? I believe everyone possesses the ability and tools to thrive — sometimes they just need a safe, supportive space to find them. With a strengths-based and a trauma- informed approach, I help clients tap into resilience, break free from old narratives, and move forward with clarity and purpose.

There are times when life feels overwhelming, confusing, or disconnected, when you’re doing your best, yet something still feels unsettled inside. Therapy offers a steady space to slow down, understand what you’re carrying, and feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued as you move through it.

Hello, I’m Michelle and I help people who feel anxious, overwhelmed, and exhausted from taking care of everyone but themselves.
If you’re stuck in cycles of overthinking, people-pleasing, or feeling responsible for everyone’s emotions, you’re not alone. Many of my clients come to me saying things like:
“I’m always waiting for the next thing to go wrong.”
“I don’t know how to say no without feeling guilty.”
“I look fine on the outside, but inside I feel burned out and disconnected.”
You don’t have to keep surviving on stress, self-doubt, or old patterns that no longer serve you.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
