I have extensive background in working with individuals and couples with relationship issues; employment problems; depression and anxiety; low self-esteem; communication difficulties; trauma; bereavement; life transitions; domestic abuse ; childhood history of sexual abuse and/or incest; menopause, aging-related issues for both men and women; and caregiver role stress.
I strive to make my clients feel safe, comfortable, heard, and understood from our first session. I believe the connection between therapist and client is essential to emotional growth and change and to establishing a relationship with trust, warmth, honesty, and mutual respect. I help my clients to use their strengths to solve here- and- now problems. I also help to address more entrenched issues that are negatively affecting the ability to feel happy and to reach goals. My style is holistic, interactive and down-to-earth, and I focus on emphasizing the positive towards reaching goals.

I believe that the therapeutic process, although painful at times, is very rewarding and that individuals can heal and have fulfilling lives from engaging in treatment. My ideal client is a person who is willing to consistently attend therapy and trust in the process. I understand that "resistance" is a necessary part of treatment and believe that trust comes when the client and therapist continue to interact with each other. Therapy can be an unique and rewarding experience; please join me on the road to discovering your authentic self.

The focus of my work has been in trauma related to gender-based violence , intimate partner/ domestic violence , unhealthy/toxic relationships, and sexual harm.
We are not made up of one isolated incident, but of many experiences over the course of a lifetime and because of that, one experience informs another. My practice takes a holistic approach in order to validate and support the complex and layered nature of human beings, which includes a strength-based, anti-oppression, and intersectional framework. Together, we can work on processing difficult feelings, remove any barriers to healing, and learn coping strategies that will foster resilience.

I am particularly passionate about working within the LGBTQIA+ community, with those who have experienced gender-based violence and/or sexual trauma, and with couples & polycules while using Kink/BDSM/Poly affirming beliefs.
As a queer identifying practitioner implementing an intersectional feminist, decolonizing framework, crafting inclusionary environments where one feels welcomed, celebrated and supported is a focal point in my practice. I place emphasis on cultivating meaningful connections with clients that are founded in mindfulness and trust. Using modalities such as somatic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, and polyvagal theory, I prioritize a holistic approach to healing that embodies the mind, body and spirit.

I frequently work with adults struggling with substance abuse , depression, anxiety, and parenting concerns.
Creating an emotionally safe environment for the client is crucial in fostering personal insight and change. I believe regardless of age, a humanistic approach and strong therapeutic alliance can help establish a connection with the client to allow growth and change. I have extensive experience treating children and adolescents. For 11 years, I traveled into elementary, middle, and high schools to provide individual and group therapy for students. I am comfortable and confident helping children and adolescents better understand and process their feelings, perceptions, and behaviors through the combined use of play-therapy, applied creative arts, and behavioral modification.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
