Life is about change and some changes are more difficult to navigate than others. When we are stressed, anxious or depressed, it is a sign that our lives are out of balance. My focus is on providing a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental and compassionate space for adults, couples, and families to share their experiences and to help navigate through some more difficult life changes [positive or negative]; to create more balance in your life. I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to make changes to improve their lives, find purpose, and meaningful fulfillment.

If you're looking for someone down-to-earth and thoughtful to accompany you as you sift through the pieces, you've come to the right place. I invite anyone (18+) to come work with me, if you think you'd like to show up and dig deep. Are you in 'Survival Mode?' Do you find yourself replaying memories that make you feel scared, anxious or uncomfortable in your body? PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and relationships struggles can be examples of our past influencing our present. Fortunately, just as our body knows how to heal from a paper-cut, our brain knows how to heal from our past. Trauma-informed techniques allow us to keep the knowledge of the past while losing any pain or negative beliefs associated with those memories.

Down bad? Feeling wonky? Lets talk about it. I help clients with a variety of issues by tailoring my therapeutic approach to their unique needs and goals. I want everyone I work with to realize their full potential by restructuring maladaptive thought patterns that lead to distress and poor functioning. I hope to give my clients the space to process their thoughts and emotions, and understand the ways in which their behavior and subconscious beliefs about themselves and the world around them play into false narratives that ultimately keep themselves down. I strive to help my clients to learn to love themselves without condition.

I see therapy as a space where people can uncover more of themselves, make meaning of their experiences, and build lives that feel connected rather than isolated. I believe healing is relational, we don't grow by carrying everything alone but by having a place where we can be met with care, curiosity, and accountability. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are seeking support, clarity, or simply a steadier sense of themselves. My clinical background is rooted in working with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, their families, and marginalized communities, especially Black and queer communities.

You might have done some important work already — trying to regulate, sitting with discomfort, and asking yourself, “Why do I keep doing this?” Maybe you’re navigating substance use or recovery, wrestling with past trauma, or trying to deepen your emotional connections — especially if you’re queer, questioning, or a man exploring what it means to feel and express emotions fully. If this sounds familiar, you’re on the right page. I work with curious individuals who want to understand themselves more deeply, find relief, gain clarity, and build healthier relationships with themselves and others; for deep insight and true embodiment.

I am a mental health counselor committed to creating a safe, understanding space. I focus on identifying my clients’ strengths and challenges, using CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy to help them reach their goals. I’ve learned that building sustainable support systems outside therapy is key to long-term success. My past work with homeless and SPMI populations shaped my commitment to standing as an ally for refugee, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ communities.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
